National Front party founder again insists Nazi gas chambers were just a 'detail'; daughter and party head distances herself.
The founder of France's far-right National Front party, Jean-Marie Le Pen, reiterated his assertion Thursday that Nazi gas chambers were a "detail" of World War II, prompting condemnation from rights groups and his daughter.
Le Pen told a French TV station he did not regret making the statement repeatedly over nearly three decades, earning convictions for hate speech along the way, and then said it again.
"I have said what I believed. Gas chambers were a detail of the war, unless we accept that the war is a detail of the gas chambers," the European Parliament member told BFMTV.
"I have persisted because I believe that it's the truth and that no one should be shocked," the National Front (FN) founder added.
He first called the gas chambers a "detail" of World War II in 1987 and repeated it 10 years later in Munich, Germany, again in comments to a French magazine in 2008 and a year later at the European Parliament.

I am NOT anti-cement!
I don’t even know what he means. Possibly it makes more sense in French.
Trying to understand the problem with his statement. Yes, the gas chambers were a “detail” of WWII. Does he imply they were a minor detail? Doesn’t seem so. Is it connected to other statements he has made which were more specific in anti-semitism? I can’t judge from this article.
The atom bomb was detail as well. So were 15 million dead Chinese, another detail. There were many gruesome details
The author/article are acting much like our national media. It seems they wish to make a scandal out of the fact he said anything at all.
WTactualF is the deal with that statement? Were they not a detail of WWII? or is it implying that he is limiting them to a “detail” of WWII?
If they are so “far-right”, why would they be boot lickers for German invaders? Wouldn’t they be French nationalists, instead?
This is nothing new for Le Pen ... he’s got a history of this Antisemitic stuff. You’re just reading the latest!
There are two “Le Pens” ... one is the father and the other is the daughter. The daughter took over the party after dear old dad retired. And she’s been trying to “rehabilitate” the Party from its Antisemitic background.
Sounds like a claim that they were not the biggest feature of the war.
Which they weren’t, but the attitude that made them possible DID have a huge amount to do why there was a war at all.
If you want to find real anti-semites, look on the left
If she can make nice with Jews, who often want to be good citizens wherever they are, she will have more success with the rest of her efforts to avert the overrunning of France by factors that will hate it right into the ground.
Marine Le Pen is the daughter and is now the head of the party, taking over from her dad. However the Antisemitic background of the party is not easy to get rid of, internally!
A lot of people (inside and outside the country) like them because of their stance towards the Muslims, but the problem is ... you find that their stance towards the Jews is pretty bad!

Marine Le Pen watch: Meet the man tracking every racist and anti-Semitic comment of FN party

“We look at the face these candidates propose, we don’t look behind. And what’s very surprising is that even without looking behind the face of the FN, we still see comments advocating hatred and violence and calls to kill in numbers that are not anecdotal.”
The founder of the platform said despite the fact these lines of thought have receded in the French society, “at the FN, that has stayed”.
“We have candidates obsessed with the Jewish conspiracy, who believe black people are 2000 years behind, who compare Christiane Taubira (a black minister) to a monkey,” he told IBTimes UK. “And the fact this is all on public profile pages of those candidates, for instance, is bewildening.
“It’s easy to say what has shocked us: some candidates say ‘death to the Jews’, some say ‘death to the Arabs’, some rejoice at the death of Roma gypsies it’s not really subtle.”
You’ll find them there, as you say ... but they are DEFINITELY there in Le Pen’s party, too. The Jews can’t afford this kind of situation towards them in any country!
Part of the situation is French snobbery, which cuts both ways. It won’t invite harmful foreigners, but neither will it welcome helpful foreigners.
Another older article ... and there is a slew of articles on this one, so there’s nothing special about this article over another article on the same event ...
Jean-Marie Le Pen is the father and the former leader of the party, while Marine Le Pen is the daughter and the current leader of the party.

Jean-Marie Le Pen Slammed For Apparent Anti-Semitic Remark
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/06/09/jean-marie-le-pen-antisemitism_n_5473947.html
One of the big winner’s of Europe’s parliamentary elections, France’s National Front Party, is embroiled in scandal and infighting after recent remarks by its founder, Jean-Marie Le Pen, have been roundly criticized as anti-Semitic.
In a video posted on the National Front website, Le Pen was asked about Patrick Bruel, a Jewish singer who has criticized the far-right party. According to a New York Times translation of the response, Le Pen said, “We’ll include him in the next batch,” using the term “fournee,” which refers to a batch of bread baked in the oven. Critics have condemned the comment as a reference to Nazi gas chambers.
The incident has caused many in the party to publicly distance themselves from Le Pen, who is the honorary president of the National Front. In a rare split from her father, Marine Le Pen — the party’s leader — called the statement a “political error.” The video has been removed from the National Front website.
The problem is ... the Dreyfus Affair was over a century ago!
Dreyfus Affair

Alfred Dreyfus
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/anti-semitism/Dreyfus.html
Alfred Dreyfus, an obscure captain in the French army, came from a Jewish family that had left its native Alsace for Paris when Germany annexed that province in 1871. In 1894 papers discovered in a wastebasket in the office of a German military attaché made it appear that a French military officer was providing secret information to the German government. Dreyfus came under suspicion, probably because he was a Jew and also because he had access to the type of information that had been supplied to the German agent. The army authorities declared that Dreyfus handwriting was similar to that on the papers. Despite his protestations of innocence he was found guilty of treason in a secret military court-martial, during which he was denied the right to examine the evidence against him. The army stripped him of his rank in a humiliating ceremony and shipped him off to [life imprisonment on] Devils Island, a penal colony located off the coast of South America. The political right, whose strength was steadily increasing, cited Dreyfus alleged espionage as further evidence of the failures of the Republic. Édouard Drumonts right-wing newspaper La Libre Parole intensified its attacks on the Jews, portraying this incident as further evidence of Jewish treachery.
Dreyfus seemed destined to die in disgrace. He had few defenders, and anti-Semitism was rampant in the French army. An unlikely defender came to his rescue, motivated not by sympathy for Dreyfus but by the evidence that he had been railroaded and that the officer who had actually committed espionage remained in position to do further damage. Lieutenant Colonel Georges Picquart, an unapologetic anti-Semite, was appointed chief of army intelligence two years after Dreyfus was convicted. Picquart, after examining the evidence and investigating the affair in greater detail, concluded that the guilty officer was a Major named Walsin Esterhazy. Picquart soon discovered, however, that the army was more concerned about preserving its image than rectifying its error, and when he persisted in attempting to reopen the case the army transferred him to Tunisia. A military court then acquitted Esterhazy, ignoring the convincing evidence of his guilt.
I took it to mean that the gas chambers were a form of collateral damage, something that you just accept as part of the game. If he really meant that - that deliberate mass murder is part of the game - then he's a piece of garbage.
But maybe he just meant that the gas chambers were just one historical fact out of many. Well then that would be a true, yet needlessly controversial, thing to say.

That particular quote doesn’t sound very anti-semitic unless it translates different.
