Cognitive dissonance.. back when I was anti-gun, I insisted that we really didn't understand the Constitution nor what the Founders really meant and intended. So I did some research on what they ACTUALLY had said and written on the subject, and much to my dismay (at the time), discovered that YES, they DID mean what they said. I tried to wiggle my way around the "militia" part, but in became eventually clear to me, that I had it wrong.

It was a gun control debate that I lost against a Libertarian that set me on my way against Liberalism, but it wasn't easy at first.

As asked on another thread "If liberals are the good guys, why do they lie so much?" And you've shown a light right into the heart of the question with your story.

Liberals lie because they know once they can get people to commit to their narrative, thesis, or social standard, even by deception, it's harder than hell to get them to admit they got suckered, so the lie becomes self-reinforcing.

“I insisted that we really didn’t understand the Constitution nor what the Founders really meant and intended.”

You were right then! English as written & spoken in the 18th Century is totally different from English today! Who can read Chaucer in the original?? There’s no way we can accurately interpret the Constitution & apply it to the 21st Century. Best to tear it up & start all over & besides the “Framers” are nothing but dead white male slaveowners.

But until we do, apply the 2nd Amendment correctly: what kind of firearms existed in the 18th Century? Single shot flintlocks, that’s what! Citizens have no right to own any kind of firearm other than a flintlock!

#sarc necessary?
