Because genetic testing was not widely available in the early 1980s, Swagers parents were forced to choose for themselves whether to raise their child as a boy or a girl. In the end, they decided the baby was a boy, and named him Michael, giving him hormone injections in his early teens to simulate male puberty.
This is not your typical "transgender" situation. This is an actual case of someone actually growing up as the "wrong" gender.

Yep. The School District handled this poorly, but I feel for the guy...er...gal.
Even so this would have been a good time for “them” to get a transfer to another school.
Thinking of the sutdents here.
You are right. That won’t stop people here from thinking it somehow makes him/her a homosexual. I believe it’s a birth defect in this case just like other serious ones.
I agree. This is a case where there has been an genuine, verifiable medical condition. One that, unfortunately, has been exacerbated by the wrong course of treatment when he/she was younger.
No, they weren't forced to choose. They were irresponsible and lazy and daddy probably wanted a boy. Tests for X and Y were available and the doctor should have told them to do the test. Common sense would have done the test.
Yeah, I noted that also.
Later genetic testing would reveal that Swager did indeed possess two X chromosomes, not the X and Y combination that makes someone genetically male.
This is pretty rare and is not a case of perversion as such.
However, the handling of the situation by the teacher and the school is horrible. The school administrators are cowardly incompetents and the teacher is a complete self centered jerk.
