Police investigating the Germanwings crash said tonight they had made a 'significant discovery' at the home of pilot Andreas Lubitz, who deliberately ploughed the Airbus A320 into the French Alps.
Officers refused to reveal details of the potential breakthrough but said it was not a suicide note.
Speaking outside the flat on the outskirts of Dusseldorf, police said they had 'found something' that would now be taken for tests, adding it may be a 'clue' as to what happened to the doomed jet.
German detectives were also pictured carrying evidence from a £400,000 home in Montabaur, a town 40 miles from Bonn, that Lubitz is believed to have shared with his parents.
The 28-year-old is understood to have split his time between the two addresses.
The forensic find comes hours after it emerged that Lubitz was forced to postpone his pilot training in 2008 because of mental health problems, with a friend saying he was 'in depression'.
The revelation will form a central part of the investigation and raises serious questions about why he was allowed to continue his training and whether enough was done to prevent the disaster.
Airline bosses confirmed Lubitz had taken several months off work and had to retrain to join the firm, but insisted he was '100 per cent fit to fly' after passing all medical tests.

My thoughts too. The question is why he did it? Suicide by airliner seems like a pathetic way to end ones life, when there are other ways to do it. However, if one was ideologically motivated, someone like a Islamic extremist terrorist comes to mind. EgyptAir Flight 990 comes to mind. Then, I ask this question: How many do these pathetic Islamist need to kill to make their point? Or, is the killing the new opium addiction?

With EgyptAir the Co-pilot could be heard saying “I rely on God” and “Allah Akbar” with this co-pilot he said absolutely nothing..I heard today that this same co-pilot flew the day before from Germany to Barcelona, why didn’t he do it then? Maybe the pilot didn’t go to the bathroom then so he didnt have his opportunity. Whatever he did, others knew about it, I find it hard to believe that this guy didn’t give warning signs to people around him
