This guy was just nuts. An Air Force A-10 pilot was depressed and despondent over his girlfriend back 20 years ago so he went on a little ride from Davis-Monthan to Colorado where he ran the plane into a nice ridge.

He finally got the attention he wanted. Nice spectacular demise.

That’s what this kid did too.

No, this "kid" took out 150 people with him. At least the A-10 pilot had the decency to just take out himself and $20 million worth of Uncle Sam's toys.

Did they ever find the bombs he pickled somewhere enroute?

Anyhow, in the present case, this is now at least the 4th known instance of a deliberate crash by a commercial crew member, and at least the second enabled by a lockable cockpit door.

Aviation Week has a list at:
http://aviationweek.com/commercial-aviation/germanwings-crash-due-deliberate-pilot-action-french-prosecutor-says
They note “... whether the introduction of secure cockpit doors after the September 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. has created a new safety issue.”

In this case there was also an apparent lack of a protocol for having a flight attendant stand in so there are always 2 in the cockpit.
