Senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he was an “emphatic advocate” of a balanced budget amendment, and expressed support for means testing Social Security and raising the retirement age on Monday’s “Hannity” on the Fox News Channel.
“I think the penny plan has an awful lot of force to it, and I am an emphatic advocate of a Balanced Budget Amendment” Cruz stated.
Cruz added, “you’re going to be hard pressed to come up with a cost-cutting program that I’m not going to support. I do think the military, we need to look at the growing national security threats, and we need to make sure we take care of the men and women in the military and we provide what we need to protect this nation. And also if you look at the budget, you cannot bring the budget into control without taking on entitlement reform. Two-thirds of the federal budget is entitlements. So, if you don’t talk about entitlements, you can’t do it.”

If Warren Buffet and George Soros are so worried about income inequality, they should be supporting means testing for Social Security. If it isn’t means tested and the age to qualify for benefits isn’t raised, it will be bankrupt in a few years and no one will get it. Every illegal alien is about to qualify and that will hasten its end.
Just stop raising the amount people get each year and the problem with solve itself over time.
Means testing sounds good at first glance, but then it just turns the whole thing into another welfare program. NO thanks.

Means testing of SS,but for future generations.He’s not stupid enough to say do it immediately,he knows he’d have a senior insurrection on his hands.
I could support a plan where wealthy people voluntarily give up the social security they are entitled to, IF they are able to assign what they earned tax free to their kids to collect at the same age they would have.
Means tested SocSec sounds like a plan to send the 62 and over voters who have saved little bit of money to Democrats. Not a good campaign platform at all.
I personally for instance am fairly well off and really don’t need the social security I have paid for. BUT, I worry about my kids and whether they will be in a similar position or not long after I am gone.
I would feel better knowing it was there for them if they needed it.
At this point in my life (early 30’s) I don’t expect to ever see a dime from social security. I would happily let the Fedscum keep every penny they have now, and drop me from the rolls, if they simply stopped taking more from me. I wonder how many others feel the way I do and if it is enough to make an impact on SS obligations.
Cruz limited means testing Social Security to “future generations”. Those future generations should have the ability to opt out of it, then.
We had no option. The money was taken from us (and in the case of the self-employed, a double hit) without negotiation. To deny it going forward is heinous thievery.

I think this will be a disaster if he continues with it. It might be something you put through after getting elected, but it’s playing right into the Democrat GOTV “scare grandma” strategy.
Seniors are one of the few majority R voting groups.
To perpetuate it is even more heinous. All he said he’d do is something about it.

Supreme Court already ruled that there is no individual property right to your 'contribution'.
Congress can (and will) change the disbursement rules whenever it suits them.
Anyone asking for 'their' money back is simply asking to perpetuate this Ponzi scheme onto future generations.
Every study I’ve seen says people get WAY more back in SS than they ever put in. It is a welfare system. It should’ve been set up as a 401k or IRA where you have your OWN account & draw out your OWN savings.
I have an excellent retirement pension. I don’t need the SS I paid in to live. We have an $18 TRILLION debt that our children are going to have to pay back. I’d rather give up my SS to put this country back on track.
Ted Cruz is right. SS should be means-tested.
I’m eligible for SS in about 20 years and while I have paid in more than most, feel free to means test me.
Hopefully, I won’t need it and doubt I will.
