Bangor Daily News Snapchat leads Somerset County sheriff’s deputies to wanted man

Posted March 23, 2015, at 12:26 p.m. FAIRFIELD, Maine — A man Somerset County sheriff’s deputies had been seeking in connection with a January burglary at remote sporting camp made it easy for police to arrest him on Sunday after he posted his hiding location on a social networking app.
Christopher Wallace, 24, had apparently used Snapchat to post that he was at a Fairfield residence, which prompted the public to contact the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, according to a posting on the department’s Facebook page.
With assistance from Fairfield police, Corporal Richie Putnam and Deputy Ron Blodgett searched the house to no avail, but another Snapchat posting by Wallace revealed he was hiding in a cabinet and that police were looking for him. Again, police received several phone calls about his latest Snapchat post.
A subsequent search of kitchen cabinets led police to Wallace, and he was removed and placed under arrest.
In addition, a female at the residence, Erika Hall, 20, was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension as she repeatedly told police that Wallace was not in the house and that she had not seen him in weeks.

He probably thought the evidence would be destroyed since Snapchats disapear after you open them.
I remember reading somewhere (probably here at FR, but a long time ago) of a DA who said of the criminal element: “the main reason we’re able to stay ahead of them is because they’re so dumb.”
