I always thought it was a bit strange to choose a running mate on the eve of the national convention and only a few months before the national election. Be bold and choose a running mate now.
Mike Lee, or Tom Cotton would make ideal running mates. Take a page out of the Democrats book. Pick a VP candidate that would be worse(by democrat standards) than yourself. This way no democrat will be tempted to do something stupid.

He can’t do that now. It could be that his running mate would be one of his competitors for the nomination.
If, for example, he would choose Walker, then Walker might say, “No Way! I am running against him for the nomination!”
