Benjamin Franklin got the idea for daylight saving time when he was living in Paris, which is almost 49 degrees North (further north than 2/3rds of the population of Canada). He didn’t like the fact that it got light so early in the summer when he wanted to sleep in.
How’d you like to be ME? I’m a watchmaker with upward of 50 watches that I have to set and the re-set twice a year. Worse, when I mail out a repaired watch to another time zone, I get a complaint because the customer’s watch isn’t on time when they get it.
When I know what time zone a watch is going to, I “TRY” to remember to set it thus, but when it is THAT day to move up or down an hour, still no good.
Each year, a few people mail their watch back with a letter of complaint. Either that or an upset e-mail.
Amen.
If people standing around in Starbucks texting each other can't figure it out take away their electronics and send them to a Remedial Arithmetic class.
Its not like I have to scale a mountain to change the one clock in my house that doesn’t change itself.
I finally changed mine the other day. I’ve been looking at it and reminding myself that its an hour earlier than the clock said.
You never lose that hour of sunlight. You can use any time.
come on Texas - please pass this bill. CST forever. DST is just a stupid idea for this day and age. It is a hassle and it wastes energy. DST is just another progressive idea that does not work.
Standard time and stick to it and forget it.
The twice a year mess is just that, a stupid mess.
I have a solar powered watch. My husband has a watch that automatically resets itself. The technology is advancing constantly.
I hate it for the same reason. I like to get up with the sun. Now, it's like getting up in the middle of the night.
If this is the biggest issue that the States have to worry about...
Just stay on summer time and everyone will be happy. Easy solution.
It's a hassle for the human biology.
That's enough for me. I ignore clocks when governments start making stupid demands.

We should have double time from June through August.
I will agree with you except for one minor difference...leave it at DST. There are far more people that work outside the home during the day than there used to be. The extra hours in the evening are precious.
I have been following this bill in Texas...looks like it is “stuck in committee”.
That’s a stupid article. There’so no “CHALLENGE” to the law ... the law provides that any state can “opt out” if they want! ... LOL ...
BESIDES THAT ... it’s getting pretty stupid around here if the biggest problem people have is changing a clock by one hour!
Arizona has enjoyed this benefit for years, however then we have to adjust for differences across the nation when we contact them directly.
I have 16 clocks that I have to change, only the cell phones change themselves. I would love to have dst all year long. It is a hassle to change the clocks, but even worse is the week it takes to adjust the brain to the new time.
Oh, I have no trouble at all changing the clocks and my watch. But it takes me a few days to adjust to getting up and going to bed an hour earlier or later.
But it’s well worth it.
Actually, our kitchen wall clock gets the time from a satellite, and changes itself.
