COLUMBIA, S.C. Out on the presidential campaign trail, Gov. Scott Walker has left Wiscahnsin back home in Wisconsin. He now wants to strengthen the economy, not the ecahnahmy. And while he once had the ahnor of meeting fellow Republicans, he told one group here this week that he simply enjoyed talkin with yall.
The classic Upper Midwest accent nasal and full of flat as is one of several Walker trademarks to have fallen away this month after an intense period of strategizing and coaching designed to help Mr. Walker capitalize on his popularity in early polls and show that he is not some provincial politician out of his depth.
He is tailoring his pitch to his audiences wearing pullover sweaters in earth-tone colors in one early primary state, New Hampshire, and discussing the power of prayer in another, here in South Carolina. He has reined in his rambling speeches, at least compared with his recorded remarks over the years. He is trying to listen more and opine less, political associates say, and he is easygoing with voters a contrast with his pugilistic reputation from his successful battle against Wisconsin labor unions, which made him a hero to many conservatives.
[snip]
And at the dinner, as well as in his Concord speech, his Wisconsin honk was noticeably absent.
I didnt hear it, Ms. Horn said. Good for him, good for him.

DOJ defends Clinton from subpoena - "It's sheer speculation she withheld work-related emails"
And he did it all in his "Sconsin" accent.
He didn’t do too well with that NUTJOB he hired for communications last week. I’m for Cotton or Cruz at this point - either one fine.
Cotton?
You must be an idiot. Cruz would be a good VP candidate with Walker at the top of the ticket.
I don’t trust him on immigration. They are openly replacing Americans now. We don’t have time to play with forked-tongue candidates on this issue.
Is she still on his payroll?
Didn't think so.
FAIL
Why not?
All of the current and potential GOP candidates have made statements supporting amnesty in the past.
Walker is one of the few who listened to the base and now supports securing the border.
This is what we want Republicans to do, listen to us, right?
NYT makes fun of Scott Walker’s Wisconsin accent. (What accent? Did he mention the stop and go lights, or the bubbler?)
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
What? Didn’t fire her fast enough for you?
Walker is in favor of securing the border. As far as his remarks on “path to citizenship”, it’s in the Constitution!
We’ve had a “path to citizenship” since our founding. It’s taken different forms at different times, but it has always been there. We just need to enforce it.
They don’t like him because he has his “blinker” on and he’s turning right.
Yeah, we’ve been getting forked tongued for decades on immigration...Over and over and over. Now you’re supposed to go along with it... again...
Wave those GOP pompoms, and get on board. We have no choice...gak
What a snide attitude the writer has. Does he think Walker does not know how to pronounce the name of his home state, Wisconsin?
More elite northeast liberal snobbery.
“What? Didnt fire her fast enough for you?”
It would be ok, had she not had such a long pro-Amnesty record. Amnesty is the ONE THING that is holding Walker down now. He needs to GET PAST IT, and soon - and instead he stepping in it.
We’ll see how he does now.
Get passed it? What's that mean Bob?
” Is she still on his payroll? Didn’t think so. FAIL “
Explain to us how she ever got there, considering her track record. Either Walker wanted her (really bad judgment) or someone recommended her. Not smart either way, and since I don’t see anyone being fired for recommending her, I have to assume it was Walker’s idea.
This was a TERRIBLE DECISION by him and made his weakest area look even weaker. Did he not hear the Republican base SCREAMING at the elected Republicans when Bush was pushing Amnesty in 2006? I guess not, since he sided with Bush on the issue. This time they were screaming at him...and he listened - a good sign, but damage was done, BIG TIME.
the simple words “ I am against John Boehner as Speaker” should enamor him to 100% of conservatives
FGS, Walker is NOT in favor of amnesty. This really isn’t much of a topic in Wisconsin, compared to the border states, although we have more than our fair share of illegals.
In 2011, Walker revoked in lower in-state tuition in our University system for undocumented aliens — a policy put in place by the previous, wild spending, Demoncrat — Jim Doyle. Then he balanced the budget, wiping out the huge deficit left by the aforementioned Doyle. Then he returned taxes to the people. All this while fighting the unions and a recall. Believe me, nobody was talking about amnesty here.
Maybe amnesty for the recalitrant Democrats who fled the state rather than take a vote in the legislature that they were sure to lose.
“Get passed it? What’s that mean Bob?”
If choose not to understand his problems, don’t blame me.
Who cares how she got there? She's not there now, isn't she?
Walker doesn't have a well-oiled, national political machine like Romney does. He's going to make mistakes and say the wrong things. This is a plus in my book. I want him to run a Mom-and-Pop, down-home political operation. Not a Washington-pundit centered one.
