The administrations deportation chief backtracked Friday, just a day after she pleaded with Congress to pass laws cracking down on so-called sanctuary cities and states a stance that appeared to put her at odds with her boss, President Obama.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Sarah Saldana, who has been on the job less than 90 days, told Congress she would welcome new laws to crack down on states and localities that refuse to cooperate with her agents who are trying to apprehend and deport illegal immigrants.
Thank you, Amen, she said Thursday when asked if she would support Congress passing a law insisting local officials cooperate.
Her remarks drew fire from immigrant-rights advocates, and on Friday she had to issue a new statement saying she does not, in fact, want to see Congress pass any new crackdown laws.
Any effort at federal legislation now to mandate state and local law enforcements compliance with ICE detainers will, in our view, be a highly counterproductive step and lead to more resistance and less cooperation in our overall efforts to promote public safety, she said in an effort to walk back her previous statement to Congress.

“Sanctuary cities” are violating federal law. They also misuse the word “sanctuary”. Like everything the left does it’s a LIE
Who cares what she says now, just pass a new law stripping ALL Federal Funds from any State that has or allows any city or county within it’s jurisdiction to aid and abet Illegal Aliens in any way.
You’re absolutely right and this is yet another example of 0bama’s administration supporting lawlessness.
Saldana’s phone lines must have lit up like a Christmas tree after she had the audacity to ask Congress to act.
Translation;
My boss said; "We're not quite finished with the complete take-over of America ... hold off a bit until we have the laws and infrastructure sufficiently in place to counter an armed revolt"
It’s OK and not unexpected that she “backtracked”, aka, made contradictory statements within a short period of time, i.e., lied. I don’t believe a word that comes from anyone employed by this government.
Lip service. ..
She’s new and probably thought she was supposed to carry out the enforcement of our laws. That is her job, after all.
I guess she didn’t understand that it’s not policy in this administration to enforce the laws against fraudulently documented foreigners.
She was right in the first place. Sanctuary cities are accomplices of illegal aliens and their employers furthering the undermining of our nation. And we’re paying to have our country stolen from us.
The current CIC thinks he should protect fraudulently documented foreigners from the laws, not the people of this nation from the illegal aliens.
“Her remarks drew fire from immigrant-rights advocates, and on Friday she had to issue a new statement saying she does not, in fact, want to see Congress pass any new crackdown laws.”
It would be great to see one, one congresscritter get up on his hindlegs and tell Buckwheat to stuff turnips up his nose.
Cut off funding to “sanctuary” cities (and states.)
Amen...Or somewhere.
Bump
“I got my head on straight, Boss.”
