Okay, great. So how do you know what to believe from this man and what to ignore? Inquiring minds want to know--especially since the five permanent members of the UN Security Council are asking themselves this very question.
My question is serious because the P5 is inching toward a UN Resolution on a Palestinian State. And for the first time, this may be a unanimous vote. So help me out here--Was Mr. Netanyahu lying then or is he lying now?
Thanks.
Well, for one thing, the “political realities” of a situation dictate how someone is able to respond to something.
Now, the Oslo Accords have been a continuing process for 20 years, with many intervening agreements, with the Palestinian Authority in place (and with Israel’s help) and Netanyahu has worked towards a Palestinian State since he’s been Prime Minister. He said he would go anywhere, at any time and meet with anyone to form a Palestinian State. He knows that the time is running out for Israel to have the advantage over this thing. That’s been long-standing for Netanyahu.
AND ... he knows that to reject the Oslo Accords and reject a Palestinian State would bring down the wrath of the world upon Israel for doing so.
ALL THAT tells me that Netanyahu is going to continue on his same course as before. He’s definitely going to do everything he can to protect Israel’s security in the matter, but he’s going to proceed.
BUT ... for him to “proceed” ... he HAS TO WIN ... you see ... :-) ...
