(WASHINGTON, D.C., 3/18/15) -- CAIR is calling on residents of Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, and South Carolina who value constitutional freedom and civil liberties to contact their state representatives or governor and ask them to veto or stop consideration of unconstitutional, anti-Muslim legislation.
Nearly all bill sponsors have admitted these bills are designed to attack the religious principles of Islam or target Muslim communities.
For the past five years CAIR has witnessed a trend of state level support for legislation known as "anti-foreign law" or "American Laws for American Courts." Previously, supporters of anti-foreign laws sought to make following the religious principles of Islam illegal. After Oklahoma's 2010 anti-Sharia constitutional amendment was ultimately struck down in federal court for violating the U.S. Constitution, anti-Muslim activists started to support the introduction of anti-foreign law bills.
Supporters of these laws fail to acknowledge that American courts are already required to adhere to American law. Anti-foreign law the legislation infringes on the constitutionally protected right to choose Islamic marriage contracts, implement Islamic wills or to be buried according to one's religious beliefs. These laws could negatively impact the validation of international adoptions and foreign marriages.
Moreover, these laws may bar any state court from considering of Catholic Canon law and Jewish Halacha law, which are also considered by many courts to be a type of foreign law.
CAIR has provided four "click and send" letters for state residents to urge their elected officials to stop the consideration or outright veto of unconstitutional and anti-Muslim bills. If you live in Mississippi, Tennessee, Texas, or South Carolina, please sign the letter to send it your state representatives.

Four Days Left Until Mississippi Governor Signs or Vetoes Anti-Foreign Law Act
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant has until March 23 to either sign into law or veto anti-foreign House Bill 177. Supporters of past anti-foreign law legislation in Mississippi (HB 711 and HB 1333) have explicitly stated that "foreign law" includes "sharia law." Sharia is the religious principles of Islam.
Mississippians Take Action
Mississippi House Bill 177
Bill Type: Anti-Foreign Law - Designed to Stigmatize Muslims
Status: Approved by Mississippi State Legislature and sent to Governor Phil Bryant for Approval by Monday, March 23
CAIR is calling on Mississippi residents to contact Governor Phil Bryant and ask him to veto HB 177, an bill intended to stigmatize Muslims that would ban on state court consideration of foreign laws. The governor's office has not indicated whether or not he will sign the bill.
Tennesseans Take Action
Bill Type: No-Go Zone Bill, Designed to Stigmatize Muslims
House Bill 1141 and Senate Bill 1040
CAIR is calling on Tennessee residents to contact their elected representatives in the Tennessee General Assembly and ask them to oppose HB 1141 and SB 1040. Companion bills that mirror each other, these acts would vilify the state's Muslim community by directing the Tennessee attorney general to eliminate imaginary "no-go zones."
"No-go zones" refers to a discredited and universally mocked claim that Muslims in Europe have set up zones that people of other faiths and police are not allowed to enter. Earlier this month CAIR asked leaders in the Tennessee General Assembly to oppose these bills.
The bills have respectively been assigned to the House Civil Justice Subcommittee and Senate Judiciary Committee to await consideration.
Texans Take Action
Bill Type: Anti-Foreign Law - Designed to Stigmatize Muslims
House Bill 899, House Bill 670 and House Bill 562
CAIR is calling on Texas residents to contact their state representatives to ask them to reject several anti-foreign law bills that are designed to stigmatize Muslim communities. All three bills have been assigned to the House Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committee.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, president of the Texas State Senate, has pledged while campaigning that he would permit anti-foreign law legislation to proceed in the Senate if any of these bills passes the House.
South Carolinians Take Action
Bill Type: Anti-Sharia Law -- Unconstitutional, Anti-Islam -- Designed to Impact Muslim Rights
House Bill 3521
Bill Type: Anti-Foreign Law - Designed to Stigmatize Muslims
Senate Bill 101
CAIR is calling on South Carolina residents to contact their elected representatives in the South Carolina General Assembly to reject an unconstitutional, anti-Muslim bill whose sponsors admit is designed to attack the religious principles of Islam. House Resolution 3521 seeks to "prevent a court or other enforcement authority from enforcing foreign law, including but not limited to, Sharia Law in the state. ..."
CAIR is also asking state residents to urge members in the general assembly reject Senate Bill 101, an anti-Muslim bill that would ban on state court consideration of foreign laws
Both bills have been respectively referred to the house and senate judiciary committees. HB 3521 is expected to be approved at any moment and referred to the state's general assembly for adoption.
HB 3521 is similar to an amendment in Oklahoma that was ultimately struck down in federal court because it violated the U.S. Constitution.
Background
Language for both anti-foreign law and anti-sharia law acts have been extracted from Islamophobe David Yerushalmi's American Laws for American Courts model legislation. Yerushalmi leads the hate group Society of Americans for National Existence (SANE), which once offered a policy proposal that would make "adherence to Islam" punishable by 20 years in prison, called for the immediate deportation of all non-citizen Muslims and urged Congress to declare war on the "Muslim Nation," which SANE defined as "all Muslims."
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.

I’m PROUD to be a South Carolinian!
Stand up for LIBERTY against Islamic fascism!
This is patently false.
Typical islamofascist distortion.
Islam consists of three parts.
1. Religious observations and rituals.
2. Total control of any secular system of government.
3. Total mandatory behavior affecting the minutest aspect of every individual's Life.
Absent any of those three components it is no longer the uncompromising ruling system of every koranimal's life, enforced by self appointed superior koranimals, more equal than the ordinary koranimals.
It should be obvious that removing #2 above is not possible for a primitive, uncompromising animalistic culture.
AND MOST IMPOTANT OF ALL, ABSOLUTELY INCOMPATIBLE WITH A SECULAR, FREE, CONSTITUTIONAL REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC.
By definition, then, there is no way in the universe for accommodation or compromise, when one of those culture's sole method of compromise is convert or die.
Any and all rational rebuttals to the above view of the conundrum, as I see it is certainly welcome.
DOGMATICS NEED NOT APPLY. I am serious about the "rational" part.
Again, another reason we just need to get all these people out of this country before we’re in as bad shape as Europe is.
Tennessee’s bill is pretty simple.
House Bill 1141
Attorney General and Reporter - As introduced, requires the attorney general and reporter to report to the department of justice that a no-go zone exists within political subdivisions of the state; requires the attorney general to take all necessary steps to eliminate the no-go zone to enforce compliance with state and federal law. - Amends TCA Title 38, Chapter 3.
I just emailed Rep. Lynn and Sen. Ketron (the sponsors) to voice my SUPPORT for the bill.
LSUfan,
Many thanks for posting the topic!
I looked up the Texas HB562 & 670... basically says that foreign laws & tribunals cannot go against the US or state constitutions.
HB562 deals with foreign laws & tribunals affecting “proceeding involving marriage, a suit for dissolution of a marriage, or a suit affecting the parent-child relationship”

HB670 bars any foreign laws or tribunals from going against the US or state constitution:
https://legiscan.com/gaits/search?state=TX&bill=670
HB899 says the foreign laws & tribunals cannot go against the US constitution (it should have added the state constitution IMHO) when dealing with divorces:

Yes, repeal all anti-Muslim laws...
Make bombings and beheadings legal as long as they are done as expressions of their faith in allah.
