I knew a woman who had three ultrasounds. The first two said she was having a girl, but the third said a boy, which she had. Can’t depend on ultrasound alone.

Common occurrences. When I saw this story yesterday I wondered why it was news. Have people been so dumbed down that they don't know that ultrasounds aren't exactly reliable in this regard? Had they never encountered anyone who had this experience (your example, or a surprise at birth)? Do the medical techs never mention this anymore?

A suppose a lot of folks out there just want to "Believe".

I think it’s “news” because it allows the paper to mention the older child with the rare blood disease and their foundation. A hook to hang a plug, in other words.

However, according the article, ultrasounds at 20 weeks are very successful in identifying the baby’s sex.
