Claiming it could affect Herzog's chances of forming a government, his co-chair gives up rotation deal that brought them together.
MK Tzipi Livni announced Monday that she has given up the rotation deal for prime minister she shared with Labor leader Yitzhak Herzog, which had been a key condition of Labor and Hatnua's merging.
According to Livni, maintaining the rotation would constitute an obstacle to Herzog forming the next government. She stressed that the most important thing was to replace Binyamin Netanyahu as Prime Minister.
Over the weekend, Herzog and Livni dropped hints that they were ready to waive the rotation deal.
"Three months ago we began a campaign for unnecessary elections when Netanyahu dissolved his own government," Livni said during a cultural Shabbat event this past Saturday. "So we went to the public and said what's the meaning of the partnership we built - a partnership of equals."
Livni stressed that despite criticism from the press, the public actually supported the idea of a rotation.
"Hundreds of thousands of people thought it was a good thing," the former Justice Minister claimed. "With that we're going to win next week."
"Even if we don't receive 61 mandates, I'm sure that we have invested in the relationship we built, that the two of us together, and each of us separately, will apply all that we promised."
"That is how we are going to replace Netanyahu and how we will build a government that will allow our partners to join us," she stressed.

Guess this means Livni considers herself unfit to lead. Voters should listen else she gets a key cabinet post. Or changes her mind again, it's a woman's prerogative after all.
I am definitely a Christian Zionist (you can see clearly on my Freeper page that I’m a Dispensationalist), I mentioned that I am a member of CUFI (Christians United for Israel) and I have said many times in the past and present that Netanyahu is the best Prime Minister for Israel, and that I support Netanyahu 100% ... even as far back as the Clinton days.
You’re the one who is having problems here ... not me ... LOL ...
I must agree. This guy is a one-man anti-Netanyahu propaganda machine. His mission on this board seems to be promulgating bad news about the Israeli Likud party.
He/she is a one man/woman spam machine against Netanyahu, all the while claiming “support.” Follow their appearance/disappearance here on FR, and you can see there seems to be some seminar posting going on.
I’ve had a very long history (from the beginning, 15 years ago) of supporting Israel, and I’ve had an extremely long period of time supporting Netanyahu back to the Clinton days. The only reason why it doesn’t even go back further than that ... in terms of Israel ... is that’s when I signed on here. But apart from signing on, my history of support for Israel goes back over 50 years.
But apparently that’s not good enough for you or the fact that I’ve been in total support of Netanyahu since the Clinton days.
You seem to think that reporting the fact that Netanyahu is having a terrible time of it right now, means that I’m anti-Netanyahu. No ... that’s called reporting it is, even when you do support Netanyahu.
Let’s go into the back room where the strategists working for Netanyahu are. If you were one of them, you would be telling Netanyahu ... “No problem, Bibi, you’ve got it in the bag!” ... and you would be lying! Those guys TELL THE TRUTH about what is happening, because ONLY by knowing the truth can one respond correctly. You better believe they are telling Netanyahu the truth, which is why he is telling ALL THE NATIONALISTS to vote for him and NOT another party. Netanyahu has been told the truth. You apparently don’t like it!
I see Traveler as just what he claims to be, but a trifle trigger-happy with the article list. I shudder to think how long it will be by tomorrow morning.
Can anyone who wants to be taken seriously actually go by the name of “Tzipi?”
I can hear it now, during a solemn occasion a television newsreader speaks: “... and here she is, Prime Minister Zippie.”
Had there been four of them, the fourth of The Three Stooges would have been named “Zippie.”
