Well, in plain English, getting Tzipi Livni out of the rotating Prime Minister position broadens his appeal to the general electorate (not to those on the right, though). AND, it allows Herzog to be able to potentially pull in other smaller parties to get enough seats to form the government.
The bottom line is that Netanyahu or Likud doesn’t want to see this happen (it has, though) and thus ... they are mad about it.
