An Oakland family has found what they think is the key to a happy household: three parents. Two women named Melinda and Dani Phoenix and the man they both consider their husband, Jonathan Stein, are in a polyamorous relationship and parenting two babies together under the same roof.
Melinda and Dani began their relationship as a lesbian couple and became domestic partners in 2010. A year later, Jonathan joined them as the third partner and the three married last summer in a ceremony that is not legally recognized.
Now theyre sharing their story to raise awareness about polyamorous families and hope that some day these arrangements can be widely accepted and legally recognized. With children entering their picture, they feel gaining support from the community is more important than ever.

Money quote:
Theres a huge polyamorous community that people dont even know about, Dani says. Society really looks down on it, so we understand why poly people dont come out.
We want to show that love is beautiful and its OK to talk about it, regardless of what it looks like. Its really like any of the civil rights movements of the past, the more people are respectfully exposed to it the more people will accept it. Were proud to get the conversations started.
SSM advocates said the said exact thing 20 years ago. Just replace polyamorous with homosexual.
“the three married last summer in a ceremony that is not legally recognized.”
THEN IT’S NOT A MARRIAGE!
“Polyamorous Oakland family finds parenting easier with two moms and a dad.”
BOL! I can remember my wife and her friends joking about how they needed a wife to help them with kids, teenagers, the house and husbands.
So true. They act like “luv is all you need” No. You need ethics and values and mores.
Right up until it all falls apart.
So a leftist pagan or ROPer polyamurous thing is just fine by the Media, but heaven forbid it be a Mormon one then all media hell will be unleashed... Even though they are all equally wrong.
If the Media didn’t have double standards they would have none.
Can’t wait until they marry their cat, Fluffy, and their dog, Bowser. Then they’ll be pentamorous!
Channeling Mr. [Blank] Studies graduate:
But but....you see in Leftist pagan polyamory it is all equality, love and respect. The Mormon ones are about the male hierarchy lording over women. So there is no double standard. One needs to see the underlying power dynamics in the relationship.
So.... lesbians can choose to be Bi-sexual?
It still wouldn’t be a marriage even if it was legally recognized.
Freegards
It used to be known as your family.
Many years ago, our family all lived within blocks of each other.I could walk to my Aunts house in 10 min and my Uncles in about the same time and grandma was also within a 10 min walk.
The neighborhood grew dark and dangerous and everybody split in all different directions, some like me,moving out of state and missing out on so much.
Such a shame!
It's more complicated than that. Two goats became homeless when they moved.
BTW, there are some hilarious comments following the story.
It may be easier, but so would having several servants that share the work load. Perhaps I should start advocating taking in illegal aliens as servants because it makes things easier. (sarcasm) Easier does not equal right.
Gonna suck when the dude has to give each one a house.
I grew up in a small town where nothing was more than 3 blocks away and I had grandparents, great grandparents, and aunts and uncles all living in town.
If anyone thinks that Millenials are f’d up (I’m not saying they are, just making the point), just wait until the next generation of kids raised by two mommies, two daddies, a mom and her pet goat, etc, come of age.
WOW. There are many people on this earth who do not believe as you do and do not share the same ethics, values, and morals as you do. According to this statement if someone does not then they have none of these things. That is pure arrogance.
I'm not sure how I feel about this and it is not a pressing matter that I have to figure out right now.In other words I'm pretty good at not judging others about things that do not get into my space, or you could put it that I mind my own ethic, moral, and ethical business.....
Neither I nor you have to live as they do. How they live has zero impact on your life or my life. Don't toss your god at me, (god card), I don't play them any more than I do race cards of fem cards. You see, I am also entitled to my own belief system.
Polyspeciest Oakland family finds parenting easier with two moms, two dads, a goat, a pair of goldfish, a pot of mashed potatoes, and several flats of earthworms.
And why not?
