Babies need a legal guardian of some type until they are emancipated, to sign school papers and so forth. If his mother assumed that responsibility, he wouldn't "feel" like a "parent."

Could it be that his nature is to be heterosexual, therefore he has a natural desire to procreate and is chosing to behave in a matter that makes it impossible to fullfill that natural desire?
