(Washington, DC) - Today, U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) announced he is cosponsoring the Compassionate Access, Research Expansion and Respect States (CARERS) Act, S.683, to ensure that states, like Nevada, have the right to determine their own medical marijuana laws. The bipartisan legislation is also supported by Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). Heller stated:
The time has come for the federal government to stop impeding the doctor-patient relationship in states that have decided their own medical marijuana policies. This bipartisan legislation puts Americans who are suffering first by allowing Nevadas medical marijuana patients, providers, and businesses that are in compliance with state law, to no longer be in violation of federal law and vulnerable to federal prosecution.
I look forward to working with Senators Booker, Paul, and Gillibrand on this legislation and to ensure states setting their own medical marijuana policies without federal interference becomes a reality.
In addition, the CARERS Act also amends the Controlled Substances Act so states are able to set their own medical marijuana policies. With over 300,000 veterans living in Nevada, the legislation also allows for doctors at the VA to prescribe medical marijuana as a form of medical treatment.
Marijuana has NO LEGITIMATE MEDICAL USE! THC, maybe. Marijuana, NO.
This is all a ruse to turn American citizens into stoners who are easier to control.
FREEDOM and INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY will save this country. Marijuana WILL NOT, DUDE!
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you have not done adequate research, or believed somebody who doesn't know what they are talking about.
Perhaps you even believed the same government officials who are eager to help you with all aspects of your life.
But, it's usually a good thing to be accurate when you make such a sweeping proclamation.
Yours is not.
There are 10's of thousands of veterans in this country that use leafy marijuana for all sorts of ailments and get great therapeutic benefit without the horrendous side effects common to most pharmaceuticals.
Get a clue and stop displaying your willful ignorance.
Also relevant is the fact that Sens Cruz, Roberts and Rubio have stated that marijuana legalization should be up to the state.
Sorry, you are wrong.
There are tens of thousands of veterans who get stoned by smoking leafy marijuana. Although I don’t have a big problem with that it is NOT a medical benefit. Same thing as drinking ETOH without the calories. Its as harmful to your lungs as ETOH is to your liver.
Leafy marijuana has over 40K chemical substances and one type can be very different from another. In order to have medical benefit a drug must be predictable EVERY TIME it is used at the same dosage each time. Leafy marijuana IS NOT predictable and no one can certify the dosage.
THC has some medical benefits and it CAN be predictable and can be purified to a standardized dosage. Your statements are opinion, mine are scientific facts.
No, yours are an opinion extrapolated from a very limited view of the 100's of canabanoids that are present in marijuana and the receptors they plug in to.
There is real research that show real benefit for PTSD, Depression, Epilepsy...dozens of others...that show leafy marijuana to be of measurable benefit where refined THC is not.
CBD (cannabidiol) is a case in point. It has enormous benefit for inflammation and pain. Measurable in blind studies and empirical metrics, not subjective.
And it doesn't even get you high.
Also look up epilepsy.
Then do the rest of your research.
EXACTLY! And getting the grubby claws of the Feds off this issue & giving it back to the States where it Constitutionally belongs is just a tiny part of restoring that freedom. Please remember that the States can be as prohibitive as the People desire, provided that cruel & unusual punishment isn't used.
Want to talk about individual responsibility? Good, let's talk about it. Here are the 5 Principles of Responsible Cannabis Use:

When those thousands (not hundreds) of cannabinoids can be isolated and purified to repeatable dosages with measureable effects in placebo-controlled double-blind studies then maybe they could be of value in treating the maladies you describe. Until then you just never know what you’re going to get from leafy marijuana - and the smoke damages your lungs.
The time has come for the federal government to stop impeding the doctor-patient relationship in states that have decided their own medical marijuana policies.”
But if this were to pass, just think of all the federal “employees” who would be out of a job! Unemployment would go up half a percent. Just think of all those “drug warriors” facing retirement.
We just might find out. Ted Cruz (R-TX), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) are all on record as stating mj legalization should be up to the states.

Asked whether marijuana should be legalized, Roberts said that wasnt a federal issue.
Thats a state issue. If you want to get a Rocky Mountain high, go west, he said.

"Sen. Alexander believes that Washington, D.C. should not be telling states what to do about the decriminalization of marijuana," Alexander spokesman Brian Reisinger said in an email response to questions posed by the Times Free Press.

"Maybe we should legalize. We're certainly moving that way as far as marijuana is concerned. I respect the will of the people"

Research has shown that for a number of conditions marijuana provides many patients repeatable relief despite the variability of chemical content.
and the smoke damages your lungs.
Patients would be well advised to use a vaporizer rather than combustion, thus avoiding smoke and its damage.
I'm a medical user myself using it to treat ulcerative colitis. I use a 5mg dose of tincture twice daily. I don't need to have a double blind study to tell me it works since I no longer have to suffer from constant cramps or spend 4 hrs a day on the toilet. Also helps out nicely with my arthritis. I no longer have to take NSAIDs which aggravated my condition. And the dose is low enough it never makes me feel high. I haven't actually smoked it in years but I do like to vaporize it before going on my 20 mile bike loop. Other than that, I don't really enjoy getting high.
Currently NIDA controls all the research done on cannabis, but they won't allow any to be done unless the study is commited to proving a negative. It was considered a very effective medicine for thousands of years before our government arbitrarily decided to make it a crime.
