Denver Public Schools had four times the number of administrators as any other large metro area districts last year, and salaries and benefits for those staffers are $22 million more than the next largest metro district, Colorado Department of Education figures show.
The teachers union president reviewed the data Watchdog.org obtained and said the nearly $68 million paid to DPS administrators would be better spent on students.
We need to be talking about keeping dollars closer to classroom when it comes to public education, said Henry Roman, president of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association. Should they be putting the money in the classroom, where it has the most impact on the students, or paying for more bureaucracy? Looking these numbers, theyre paying for more bureaucracy.
Colorado Department of Education figures show that in 2013-14 school year, DPS had 400 people classified as administrators for a school district with about 11,500 overall employees and nearly 86,000 students. Jefferson County Schools, which also has nearly 86,000 students and slightly more than 11,000 employees, only listed 105 administrators in that year.

They also have a fancy administration building at 1860 Lincoln St, Denver, CO 80203
Welcome to Jefferson County Kentucky. 300+ “administrators” making over $100,000 per year. Plus benefits.
Ah, the sacrifices they make for our children.
And they have “assistants” and most drive district provided cars or have district funded gas credit cards, have district provided smart phones, tablets, and/or laptops, and have their service plans covered, too. Lots of perks.
Headline writers really should be required to take a course in rudimentary grammar.
Governments are always building expensive monuments to themselves - using our taxpayer money.
It’s called “Featherbedding.”
By "students" they mean "teachers and their union".
York county in SC spares no expense either.
And the teachers starve. there are thousands of 100,000+ “administrators” all over the country. But the teachers support the unions. The unions keep the teachers poor, so the unions can retain power pretending to help the teachers. Screw the stupid public school teachers!
Let’s see. DPS has 400 administrators. The Teachers Union is complaining that DPS spends $68 million for them. Two conclusions: (1) May I please become a DPS administrator? That’s $170,000 a year on average. (2) The administrators must not be CEA members.
Solution: Fire 3/4 of Denver’s school administrators and put the rest to useful work. Just a thought.
