So many are so uninformed as to think they have “freedom of speech” in the USA.
The American people consider this the highest priority.
” in Miami, this Oklahoma crap...”
Used to work a day a week in Miami, Oklahoma.
I got to experience it too.
What a dreadful place.
The reaction to the video and news stories is a little disconcerting. Some are complaining the “Free Speech” has been taken away, others are saying that this is no big deal.
The truth is that FR has a strict anti-racism policy. Free speech is practiced here everyday, but if anyone had posted the chant that these idiots were singing, with the “n-word” and taunts about lynching, the post would be zotted, and the poster likely banned.
Just because the left is opposed to something doesn’t mean the right has to support, or defend it. These ADULTS made asses of themselves, and are an embarrassment, and wrong, and they should be chastised.
We are talking about different Miamis. :)
In a small way I understand Miami Oklahoma covering this. But Florida?
Journalistic malpractice.
I totally agree that the racism should not be tolerated...and if I were there, I would have not been amused.
The hypocrisy is not with the conservatives who find racism wicked, but with liberals who only see racism when it involves idiots like these kids.
Media is setting up detour signs from e-mail story.
And pretty soon the Government will be announcing that criticism of Muslims or Homosexuals is also verboten. (They are already working on it.)
I suppose we are already too far down this road of "permitted speech" and "prohibited speech" to ever go back.
Now i'm wondering where are all the people who have been telling me that "you can't legislate morality." ?
Social sanction and government sanction are very different things.
Exactly.
Any black frats have members that use the “n” word?
It is in practically all rap songs.
I believe OU has destroyed the Fraternity, and thereby tainted everyone who belonged to it, all on the basis of what those people in that video did.
Unless that small handful of people constitutes the bulk of the Fraternity, I would say that the people in power are guilty of the same offense they complain about; Judging people as a group, rather than as individuals.
Do you believe everyone in that fraternity condones what those people did? Should everyone in that fraternity have to bear the consequences for what those few did?
Oh, and to address your point about the difference between social sanction and government sanction :
The University of Oklahoma is a state-supported institution of higher education supported by legislative funds derived from State of Oklahoma tax revenue. As a state, tax-supported institution, the University gives preference in tuition pricing to residents of the State of Oklahoma.
It would seem that government sanction applies here.
No this particular house of the fraternity destroyed itself with stupid behavior.
The fraternity is a for profit corporation operating on the campus under a charter that required specific performance. They broke that agreement and have been thrown off campus.
All of the adverse treatment is a result of their stupid behavior.
But here is an example of the same point being made by someone else.
No, a public university may not expel students for racist speech
Do you think the American people believe in double standards?
