BOSTON, MA One of the more public divorces in Boston media history turns out to have been just a trial separation. Howie Carr and WRKO (680AM and 93.7FM HD-2) announced today that the legendary author, columnist and talk show host will return to the Entercom station on Monday, March 16. Carr will assume the weekday afternoon time slot he occupied on WRKO for decades, 3-7 p.m.
Entercom Bostons VP / Market Manager Phil Zachary said he believes Carrs return was meant to be. As the holidays passed, it became obvious to me that WRKO and Howie belong together, he said. Its that quirky relationship that everyone says will never last but ends up enduring longer than most because both partners enhance the others strengths and talents. Carrs last program on WRKO was Nov. 7, 2014.
Howie Carr stated, Im happy to return to WRKO. Not only does it offer a great signal with full market coverage and better programming, but its also the original home of my show. Howie Carr debuted his program on WRKO in 1994.
An HD radio (portables and tabletops about $50) needed to get the HD2 signal of WEEI FM 93.7 that carries WRKO
you gotta tune into Howie on the web every once and a while and listen to the callers. They are a friggen riot. That "chump line" has me in tears. And how can you forget "Political Hacks and Lackey's" I learned it from him and Bill Brady in Western Mass years ago, who probably stole it from Howie...
Yes and for a time Bob Katzen. Howie went to WHDH 850 and when WEEI moved to 850, Rush and Howie moved to RKO (Sept of 94). Here’s Howie on WHDH, Aug of 94\

Howie does have affiliates in ME,NH and VT of course and some of his stations reach NY, CT, RI and Canada
ping
I have to say it:
“Hey Howie, how can we forget you if you won’t go away?”
Good luck, Howie!
Besides, it fits Holder more than Howie.

But this time he’s in control, right? Syndicated, not under contract to them? Should be sweet.
WTHell’s up with this?
back to back with El Rush Bo is good lis’nen
Jerry Williams. I was trying to remember his name. What a hoot he was.
Translation: Howie's show keeps my crap station afloat and WRKO pays Howie -- now as an affiliate.
Good: controls content,makes money
from affiliates,4.5 mi. commute,better
signal
Bad:as part of agreement he can’t steal
away certain advertisers from WRKO
Entercom getting crappy afternoon
ratings.They need Howie. Better
signal than 1510.They negotiated.
Howie won’t get huge salary from them
but will get affiliate fee and can
do show from Needham studios of Money
Matters as he has.But he can’t steal
some sponsors away from Entercom.
Supposedly WRKO ratings in his time
slot went from 3.2 to 2.0 in his absence.
Mike Siegel was a fill in..and I
think he won’t be back on RKO
(fill in for Kuhner?Siegel is in Seattle..
early hours!).Howie controls his show
so HE picks his own fill ins.
I might just call in and break his cubes! What a hypocrite!
I wonder if VB returns?
VB has been on Howie’s show a couple
times a week and was on today. Howie’s
boss now isn’t Entercom, it’s himself,
so he controls content and fill ins.
I don’t know if Howie can afford to
pay Howie for full time work.In an
odd coincidence,VB got laid off
by Cox,new owners of fox 25,
just as Howie was about to start
his own show.
Oops I mean pay vb for full time!
