That may be true on SSDs but military specs for hard drives require either hammering it or rewriting a series of 1’s and 0’s four times. Even then, on those hard drives, you can still tell — with really expensive equipment. That is why I was told “bludgeon it and drop it in the ocean” if you want to be safe for those hd files. SSDs — I don’t know of protocols for them.
