Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland intends to join the race to replace retiring Sen. Barbara Mikulski, hoping to become the first African-American elected to the Senate from her state, according to officials familiar with her plans.
Edwards would become the second member of the state’s House delegation to announce her intentions to run for the Senate. Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen joined the race last week.

I received many mailings from her which I could barely bear to read because they were so stupid and so dishonest.

Donna Edwards deserves this seat. She is the one closest to the political ideology of President Obama and will help his legacy live on. If the Democratic voters of Maryland reject her in their Primary, the reason for it will be nothing short of blatant Racism. If that happens, I will demand that Rev. Al and Rev. Jesse get involved and call for an investigation under the Voting Rights Act. RUN DONNA; RUN!!!

My recollection of Van Hollen is that he's pretty ruthless. Maybe not as notoriously savage as someone like Jim Moran, but definitely not a pushover.
She better have her deck of race and gender cards handy, because he'll go after her very hard.
I'd also point out that Maryland just went thumbs-down on a black leftist democrat in the race for governor. Of course, that was an off-year election. I wouldn't bet on that happening in a Presidential year, but one can hope.
Speaking as a resident of the Freak, er Free, State - Van Hollen has carefully cultivated the Dem Congressional leadership and is a favorite in Montgomery County. I’m getting out my popcorn for the P.C. bloodletting on this one. Very, very hard to see a Republican winning this one, but it would sure be nice if a Dan Bongino, etc. ran for this spot. Probably hopeless, but hope springs eternal . . .
