We should advocate a full remilitarization of Japan. That would get the chinese leadership’s attention — and probably Putin’s, as well.

I’m with that. Japan is a better friend than anyone in the Middle East, China, Russia, or N. Korea.

No thanks, but it'll probably happen regardless. I oversaw a Japanese infantry platoon during an exercise at Fort Lewis a few years back. They're well equipped, motivated, but not well trained. If they wanted to relive the glory days of the empire, they could probably do it, but the outcome would be the same.
