To: ROCKLOBSTER
How about a federal "grand jury" and "Office of the Federal Prosecutor" both staffed and elected by the states? They could work in conjunction with a reconfigured FBI.

Yeah something that is triggered automatically to take these things out of the hands of congress.

Personally I think we should find a new means of choosing an attorney general anyway. This crap of the AG acting at the president's personal prosecutor/defender is getting damn old. We have an elected AG and SOS in michigan and they both regularly oppose the governor despite being from the same party.

Then you would have to change the Constitution as I see it, because the AG is a cabinet-level position just like the SOS, the POSTMASTER, and all the rest. But I agree with you, that this should be changed because we have no mechanism for law enforcement if the AG is the Presidents “boy!”
