Texas black GOP congressman relishes being political outlier (Will Hurd)

Texas Rep. Will Hurd’s Urdu is better than his Spanish, even though the latter is the preferred language of many constituents in his sprawling, two-thirds Hispanic district.

The 37-year-old worked for the CIA for almost a decade, much of it undercover in Pakistan, where he mastered the national tongue. “When I had a long beard and wore local clothes, my Urdu was good enough to get the local discount at the bazaar,” Hurd said.

Yet, he’s comfortable being a political outlier: Texas’ first black Republican elected to Congress since Reconstruction and only one of two black GOP House members along with Utah’s Mia Love—underscoring just how much the GOP has struggled in appealing to minority voters. He also has avoided the tea party rhetoric on polarizing issues like immigration and border security embraced by many of his fellow Republicans at home and across the nation. …

Of course the AP would praise such a guy with a Conservative Review score of 50 percent (F). AP loves their RINOs. Never mind that his time undercover in Pakistan makes one wonder about his double-agent status.

Hurd is one of the Rinos who voted to bring to a vote, and then to pass the immigration/dhs vote the other day.

If 95% of Republicans in Congress aren't conservative, what does that say about the country?

Hurd won by about 2,500 votes or about 2% of the vote.

If he were to satisfy what some people think of as conservative, maybe he wouldn't be in Congress at all.

What it says about the country is that the DC elites appropriated power that is not theirs, of course. Never mind what their Prætorian media did to keep the populace’s eyes off the ball.

You’re onto something.

My take is that we have a Uniparty Corporatist political system that wants to sustain a single market worldwide economic system.

This is done with Amnesty and open borders, Common Core in education, Obamacare making everyone pay into the healthcare system with what amounts to a bailout disguised as “reform”.

Politicians like Governor Walker in Wisconsin and Governor Bentley in Alabama do not resist the dictates of lower court judges regarding Gay Marriage because the big business elites will not reward their states with “jobs”.

UKIP in the United Kingdom is a party reaching from Right to Left to build a coalition against the Corporatist elites (big business, big banks, big government) to stand up for individuals and small business who are hurt by their collusion in organizations like the European Union.

It will take more than conservative voters to win elections.
We need to bring people together on key issues like those mentioned above, people of all political stripes who are hurt by those policies and or opposed to them.

A lot of “liberal teachers” don’t like Common Core, for example......

True. Hurd won in a majority Latino district. That was quite an accomplishment. There are limits to how far right he could go and continue to keep the seat in Republican hands.

The GOPe leaves people out of its current pro-Amnesty strategy as well (REAGAN DEMOCRATS). Nigel Farage and UKIP have done a good job of drawing people together in the UK and he offered a bit of advice when he spoke at CPAC the other week.

He urged to GOP to not forget the “Reagan Democrats”.
