Obviously Hillary went this route because some of the emails, if they were available, would do her more damage than this kerfluffle about violating the law and using a personal email account.
Tell me - just how secure was her personal email account??
Answer - no security. If Congress wants Clinton’s emails just make a deal with the Chinese, they have them all. - money talks - highest bidder takes all.
I guess with the level of security on Benghazi Clinton’s personal email account we could have the FBI ask North Korea’s premiere hackers to provide us with all of her email messages.
Everyone who works for a defense contractor gets training at least once a year on “don’t send confidential/secret/anything military or corporate on personal email or handled on personal computers” training.
Yet she did all of her work as Secretary of State in violation of such rules and laws.
And the reason for such is it may be hacked and leaked.
And we discover this because the account was hacked and information leaked.

Obviously the SMARTEST woman in the world, felt being caught using a private email was worth the risk rather than conducting HER type of official business with a government email.
Yep, she thought this thru and felt the risk of people finding out how corrupt she ran her position outweighed people finding out how corrupt she was to hide her communications.
