We have other assets in theater that provide coverage, from Air Force to Navy to whatever, and these assets provides us with very detailed coverage capability over Iraq.
Been there done that. Making occasional strikes on ISIS does NOT mean whe have AWACs overlooking the area all the time or even most of the time, nor does it mean we have fighter CAP in place.
Without AWACS, the radar horizon and range are going to preclude Navy ships from keeping an eye on a strike transitting Iraq.
