The House will vote Friday on a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security for three weeks in an attempt to avert a shutdown slated for Saturday at the massive agency.

If the bill is approved by the House, the Senate is expected to quickly follow suit — though the upper chamber also plans to move forward with a bill funding Homeland Security through the end of the fiscal year.

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) announced the new strategy to his rank-and-file members during a closed-door caucus meeting Thursday night. Senior Republicans predicted it would win enough support to clear the lower chamber. “I think we’ve got plentiful support. I was very pleased with the response. I think it’ll be a very strong vote,” House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) told reporters after the meeting.

Well, this is better than the thing passing this week for funding for the whole year IMO.

Aren’t 70% + of DHS employees unaffected by Congress not funding?

How many people work for DHS? 100,000?

So keeping about about 30,000 DHS employees from furlough is worth 5 million to 11 million illegals from becoming registered to vote for democrats?

Time will tell, but if I had to guess, based on past performance, I would guess we were sold down the river

Why do this? Simply to give McConnell more breathing room before the IDIOT wises up and eliminates the 60 vote closure requirement for THIS particular legislation PREVENTING Obama from usurping Congress’ legislative power? Why is McConnell too COWARDLY to take this simple step?

If the Department of Homeland Security is to “shut down”, let it be because Obama VETOED the funding legislation because it defunded part of his lawlessness. GROW SOME BALLS MCCONNELL!

It takes a lot of nerve, guts it you will, spine, to go to the voteres every 2 years and tell them how conservative they are, how they’ll fight for the constituion. The spineless argument doesn’t fit. That’s not the issue. They’re liars and crooks.

No, spine is what is needed to stand up to the left and they lack it. Chutzpah is what is needed to lie to the voters every two or four years. That they have.

Remember who voted to Ratify obama’s illegal and unconstitutional edict and hound them to their grave.
THIS IS TREASON.

McConnell is not on our side. That should answer all your questions.

They don’t stand up to the left because they are the left. They stand up to us well enough.

“McConnell is not on our side. That should answer all your questions.”

You may well be right...it would certainly explain his actions or, more accurately, inactions.

The ONLY thing he needs to do is to “suspend” the 60 vote closure rule for THIS legislation only (since it is to prevent the usurpation of Congress’ powers) and then pass the damn bill. Of course Obama may well veto it, but THE CONGRESS AND THE REPUBLICANS WOULD HAVE “SEIZED THE HIGH GROUND” in this fight to preserve the constitution. The Republicans (and the American people) would then later prevail in spite of their irrational fears.

Why do this?

The article says that one reason is to see what happens with Obama's emergency lawsuit.

Presumably, if it goes nowhere it gives the GOP more ammunition to strip funding from the illegal immigrants since Obama's EO will have been rejected by even a court which is friendly to them.

I listened to Levin tonight. He had an interesting caller. It apparently doesn’t matter whether Congress votes the money nor does it matter what the Texas judge or any judge says. Obama is effectively appropriating money and going full speed ahead and we are not talking about 5 million new Democrats but 13 to14 immediately and a multiple of that number in the not distant future. I am not going to repeat what was said. I don’t remember the details well enough. I have tried to get a recording of the second hour of his show but I don’t think he puts his shows on line. If this caller was not a ringer we are in a lot worse trouble than we have thought. If it checks out I am sure Levin will return to it.
