I'm sure that is a large component of the problem, but leftists are notorious anti-semites, which is ironic given that many leftist movements have been spearheaded by (leftist) Jews. I'm convinced that this is one of the reasons that leftists don't see muslims as the threat that conservative Jews and Christians see them: they have a common worldview.
