The return of Todd Akin? (may run for senate against RINO Blunt)
thehill.com ^ | 2/25/15 | Jonathan Easley

Todd Akin is considering a primary challenge to Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) in 2016.

“I have not ruled anything out,” the former congressman and 2012 GOP Senate nominee told The Hill in a phone interview on Wednesday.

“I think there is a high level of dissatisfaction among conservatives, that they have to some degree been pushed out of the Republican Party,” he continued. “The sentiment is there. The Tea Party is skeptical and wants some fresh blood, not just the same establishment guys.” Akin’s reemergence is sure to be an unwelcome development for national Republicans.

During his 2012 race against Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), the Republican triggered a firestorm of criticism from both Democrats and fellow Republicans for saying that women rarely get pregnant from "legitimate rape” during a discussion about why abortion should be illegal in all cases, even rape and incest.

When Akin refused to back down, the GOP essentially abandoned him in the once-winnable race, and his gaffes hurt the party across the board.

Now, the GOP pariah says if he did run, it’d be to try to move his party away from a singular focus on economic issues, which he says has come at the expense of social issues, like abortion.

And Blunt, he argues, will have problems with the state’s conservative base.

“I think [Blunt’s] support among conservatives is weak,” Akin said. “His biggest liability is a third party conservative getting into the race. If I were in Roy’s shoes, that’s what I’d be worried about.”

Even if he doesn't run, Akin's talk of primarying Blunt my cause others to think about it as well.

Based on his voting record, we could certainly use somebody else:

Blunt (MO) - 2016 - 54% (Average) - 32% (CReview) - 57% (Heritage) - 67% (CFG) - 71% (ACU) - 41% (FreedomWorks)

“There has to be someone better.”

Of course there is, and my hope is that someone will rise up.

There has to be someone in Walker’s Administration that can run. The entire state of Wisconsin has been beyond amazing and that is due to the leadership of Walker for almost 4 years.....I think there are many mini Walkers ready to step up. I would like to see Walker chose someone to run and only allow that person to run and nobody else can. If we were a smart country that is how we would run it at least for right now.

Thanks but we prefer to have someone from Missouri run for the Missouri senate seat. We're funny that way.

Hope he does. He's a reliable and absolutely conservative voter. That's exactly what is needed.

I think Blunt and Jerry Moran have been pushing some mass legal immigraiton bills.

Hopefully Akin at least gets publicity against some of these RINOs laying low and someone else runs.

The death threat helped weaken Rove.

Steve King also trolled Rove. In a way I think Akin helped elevate King on immigration and Huckabee on abortion. King and Huckabee were still standing and doing whatever they want while Romney and Rove collapsed in 2012-2013.

Akin did one thing right. Refusing to let Ann Wagner run for Senate. She is a RINO and her donor is trying to oust the Tea Party guy who is the chair of the Missouri GOP.

Martin, a lawyer and favorite of the tea-party wing, narrowly won the state post two years ago in a bitter contest in which he ousted incumbent David Cole. Hancock, a veteran political consultant, is believed to be backed by many of the party’s top donors and longtime activists, some of whom were never in Martin’s camp.

Tax cheat Sen. Claire McCaskill was gone until Akin proved to be a boob. He is not worthy of receiving a dime in campaign contributions.

There has to be someone much better than Akin.

Brunner wanted to grant amnesty to Dreamer mercenaries.

http://thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/senate-races/221233-reps-bachmann-king-back-akin-for-senate-seat-

Brunner said he would support allowing citizenship for immigrants who serve in the US military because of their service. But for immigrants who only get a college degree “they need to go follow the laws and get to the back of the line.”

If Steelman is conservative will she at least call Blunt a RINO or a weakling?

Roy Blunt is the sort of member of congress who Walker thinks should face no primary challenge for the next 50 years.

http://dailycaller.com/2014/01/05/scott-walker-to-tea-party-focus-on-defeating-democrats-not-challenging-republicans-video/

I think McCaskill even took a fake no vote on the Cromnibus. I dont know how Blunt voted.

Doesn't matter how conservative a candidate is if they can't get elected. Akin is damaged goods. His campaign will be a distraction. Find someone else.
