White privilege: that which gives non-whites someone else to blame for their own shortcomings or failures.
True story.
I went to college as an adult in my early 40’s. I met a woman in her 40’s also who was a nursing student. We became friends and she asked me to stand up for her at her wedding, which I did.
One day during a discussion...don’t recall what the discussion was about now, but I do remember telling her that I really didn’t give a flip about her dang color. She was half white and half black. She was simply my friend and that’s what was important to me. She commented back “I wish you did care’’ (about her color).
Well, her son had conceived two children with a gal, and my friend refused to acknowledge those children as her grand children because the gal and her son were not married, AND because she wasn’t impressed with her son. He was not her favorite child.
Eventually the couple broke up and she began to date my son, and they married. My friend died of cancer. So, I inherited her grandchildren as my own grandchildren..and THAT is what “I” like to call ‘white privilege’. They think I am their grandmother! And that’s alright with me cuz I love those kids to pieces!
