McConnell Throws in Towel on DHS Fight, but Reid Waiting for Boehner to Cave

In an extraordinary sequence of events, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell offered Democrats exactly what they have been asking for Tuesday — “clean” full-year funding for the Department of Homeland Security. And Minority Leader Harry Reid said no — or at least, not yet.

McConnell’s offer of passing a clean full-year Homeland Security bill through the Senate shorn of immigration provisions — which he said could happen quickly with Democratic cooperation — was put on hold by Reid, who told reporters he was waiting to hear Speaker John A. Boehner agree to pass it through the House first.

“We have to make sure that we get a bill to the president,” Reid said. “Unless Boehner’s in on the deal, it won’t happen.”

That could lead to the extraordinary circumstance of Democrats blocking a bill they have insisted on for weeks.

Michael Steel, a spokesman for Boehner, didn’t say whether the Ohio Republican would go along with a clean bill. “The speaker has been clear: the House has acted, and now Senate Democrats need to stop hiding. Will they continue to block funding for the Department of Homeland Security or not?”

McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, has all along said he wanted to avoid shutdowns on his watch.

“I do think we have a responsibility to act,” he told reporters.

His latest move is controversial among the GOP ranks, with a number of Republican senators backing his gambit, but others, such as Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, continuing to oppose any bill that could allow any funding for President Barack Obama’s executive actions on immigration.

But Reid has focused his Democrats on a singular goal — a presidential signature — with debates on immigration and other issues on hold until then.

Relax. The rats still have to vote the amnesty portion of the bill first.

What if Republicans defect and the bill fails to pass? McConnell still gets to say it was voted on.

Or worse, what if it doesn't get cloture and doesn't make it to a final vote? Will McConnell still say it was voted on?

Remember, this is the same guy who voted for cloture on a bill he knew he could block, just to vote no on the bill he knew be couldn't keep from passing. He's less trustworthy than Reid.

So much for winning the Senate, Mitch (which rhymes with the word bitch.............)

I suggest from now on we refer to Mitch McConnell as Harry's Bitch!

Mitch McConnell is the best argument for boycotting Kentucky.

Seriously Kentucky, what were you thinking? He had a viable challenger in the primary, whom he barely defeated. He had a Democrat challenger in the general. He has always been like this. He is not going to improve. This is what HE IS. And yet you put him in charge for the next 6 years. You have undermined the work of countless conservatives around the country.

Why did you vote for him in the general? Why did you not make your vote count, and stand up against him? Did you think “I know he stabs the base, the very heart and soul of the party in the back every chance he gets, but this will be good for my state”? Well these are desperate times, and he is allowing the ruination of the entire country. And as a conservative, I believe actions should have consequences. So it is time to start boycotting Kentucky.

I recently had to purchase a new car. I bought a car that is in the same size/class as the Toyota Camry, but I did not buy a Camry, because I know it is made in your state, and your senator disgusts me. And I encourage other conservatives to do the same.
