But, is Iran building all these nuclear reactors for the production of cheap electrical energy, to provide for their total energy independence, and to make even more of their natural gas and petroleum available for export? If not, then the only real use for the nuclear enrichment plan is for the production of weapons, meant only to exert “superior force” demands upon their neighbors and business associates.

All new nuclear power generation plants built in the world should be of the thorium-powered molten salt design. Cheaper to set up and run than uranium-powered plants, cannot produce fissile products for weapons production, and very small footprint of radioactive waste, while helping to “burn up” the large stockpiles of “spent” uranium fuel rods. And these plants can be scaled DOWN to operate efficiently, unlike uranium-powered nuclear reactors.

Oh, yeah. No danger of a runaway nuclear meltdown China syndrome, spewing dangerous radioactive material over wide areas.

Iran wants nukes for one reason: to use them.

Iran is ruled by the Twelver sect of Shiite Islam. They believe that only by the deaths of millions upon millions will the scent of so much blood draw the 12th Imam out of the well he climbed into 600 years ago, who upon emerging will lead the way to bring all of humanity to Paradise - effective extinction.

The Twelvers give a rat’s patoot about nuclear energy, or runaway reactors; they only want millions to die so their religious vision will come to fruition. Their deaths and the deaths of their population is to be expected and welcomed as that will help lead the way to the 12th Imam.

And yes, they are effectively insane from a Western point of view, but not from an Islamic point of view.
