I’ve consumed Splenda in the form of diet sodas since it came onto the market. My digestion/stomach and my weight are fine.
Conversation with a lib dietitian the other day -
So, I heard butter is now not bad for you!
> Well, the cholesterol isn’t bad for you.
My question is, how did they change that? They were right then and they’re right now, so they must have changed the reality of whether it was bad for you, right?
>Don’t be absurd, they just made new findings and evolved their conclusions.
But we were supposed to change our eating habits based on their previous proclamations, right? They were absolutely certain, and we had to comply and change our eating habits.
Now... how about that global warming?
Agreed.
Fructose (fruit sugar) messes with blood sugar and can cause weight gain. “High quality bread” might be heavy in carbohydrates, which work the same way.
I’ve always heard that doctors are not up on the latest nutrition. I have a friend who needs to lose weight, and her doctor told her to eat low-fat, which proves that particular physician isn’t up-to-date.
Our bodies do need some carbohydrates, so I’m certainly not one who advocates cutting them out...that’s not healthy. But I find that, by limiting them, I can eat what I want and not gain weight.
(BTW, nuts are a great low-carb, good-fat snack).
Eat fat and you will lose weight. Make sure it’s not hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated. Fat in butter and meat is healthy for us. Cut out sugar, sugar subs, all processed foods, and simple carbs. The weight will melt off and you will also feel better. For example, when I fall off of this wagon the arthritis in my feet hurts. I’m perfectly fine and pain free when I’m on the wagon.
That is some interesting information you have provided.
Do you know how to keep a “good balance” of these various bacteria in the gut?
If you read my reply, one of the biggest problems is that it makes the intestinal pH more acidic, which is hostile to many of the friendly bacteria that live there.
However, those bacteria are very interactive with both our metabolism, our immune system, and other microorganisms.
The fear of pH "imbalance" in the human body is also way overblown. The pH of fluids both inside and outside cells remain nearly constant despite adding to, or the body's manufacturing of strong acids and/or bases. This amazing physiological phenomenon is known as the buffer system and easily deals with most acid/base challenges we throw at our bodies.
Even so, there are a whole lotta people eager to sell you the newest magical cure for pH imbalance that is backed up by numerous studies designed to deliver the desired outcome:Fear.
