The federal committee responsible for nutrition guidelines is calling for the adoption of plant-based diets, taxes on dessert, trained obesity interventionists at worksites, and electronic monitoring of how long Americans sit in front of the television.
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) released its far-reaching 571-page report of recommendations to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Thursday, which detailed its plans to transform the food system.

Low protein diets make for a easily placated populace....
Yes, I forgot the sarcasm tag. The “forcing” comment was a joke.
Still, if meat eating is eliminated, most people won’t be running to incorporate nutritional yeast into their diet, so I stand by my statement that it is not easy to get B vitamins in a diet without eating meat. Nutritional yeast doesn’t cover the fat and cholesterol needs that I mentioned as well. Plant based diets would be devastating to the health and development of children.
Control the food, control the people-Efn Communists!
Put your trust in the Lord; your ass belongs to me. Welcome to Shawshank."
Forget that crap.
Different people have different metabolisms. Some will do better with more or less of each food category. Some feel better on veggies exclusively, some feel crummy without a generous serving of meat. If X works for you, great.
The problem is those of any culinary persuasion who guilt-trip others for not adhering to a diet they don’t like (or, as in my case, doesn’t like them - I like salads, but my medicine would be near-unmanageable if I ate it). When the plan is for government to _compel_ a particular diet, a revolt is in order.
Well, now that’s interesting. Links?
I guess maybe it isn't a good diet.. it might give conservatives heartburn... /s
Or as I like to refer to them the Meat Nazi’s. No meat for you. :-)
Why can’t vegetarians mind their own business and refrain from forcing their religion on the rest of us?
Guess what? God gave me permission to eat meat, and fish. Jesus ate both fish and lamb.
We have known this was coming for a decade. These people would still be pushing toward this even if they didn’t have Michelle’s help.
These are the same hypocrites who demand we stay out of their bedrooms and wombs, while they have their noses in our refrigerators and their hands in our wallets.
And that’s why I’m trying my best to rid the planet of these beasts one steak or burger at a time. Saving the planet the delicious way.
From the same morons that just had to backtrack on 40 years of bogus advice not to eat eggs.
Man didn’t fight his way up the food chain BY eating lettuce, either-I’m keeping my paleo-Atkins diet-I’m guessing there were no overweight people then...
Of course many animals are clearly evolved predators equipped for hunting and can only eat meat. That’s another hole in the Eden fairy tale.
That is funny...I got to remember that diet plan.
It’s a heavy burden to bare.
Yep! But I am going to keep at it.
Good & good for you!
Oh, goody! The same people who caused the obesity epidemic are going to solve it! What could possibly go wrong? Now, I’m off to load up on the 5000 servings of grains they say I should have today, then I’ll do the 45 hours of “cardio” to “burn it off”. We should all be running vegans, because they have no health problems! Idiots.
