On Monday's Morning Joe on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough suggested that having a literal interpretation of the Bible could lead Christians to violence in a similar manner as radical Islam. Oddly enough, Scarborough hoped to avoid being "torn to shreds online" by equating the two, but made the comparison anyway.
The morning's panel centered on the violence of ISIS and its undeniable ties to the tenets of Islam, but Scarborough felt compelled to find a link between Islam and Christianity. He said:
“A very crude way to put it is, this would be the ultra fundamentalist Christians who believe every single word of the Bible has to be interpreted in the exact ways which could also lead to some violence.

I could be considered an “extreme fundamentallist”-evangelist Lester Roloff is one of my heroes-and nothing I’ve ever been taught or read in the Bible ever told me to harm unbelievers, but to pray for their salvation and share the Gospel. He should have cited those passages in the Bible that Fundamentalist Christian Terrorists would base their Terrorist beliefs on. I have read that book more than once and through some oversight have never seen those verses.I should like to be enlightened by Mr. Scabrous.
Well .. If they really want to go down memory lane - we could re-examine how Janet Reno dealt with “Christian extremists” (i.e. a true cult that considered Koresh to be Christ ... Hardly what you would call “Christian”)

Because of his success, the savage tribesmen of the Arabian Peninsula flocked to his banner, with the promise of battle, booty, women, and slaves; all sanctioned by “God’s Prophet”. That is my summary to his playbook of success.
The Islamic savages have learned the Muhammad playbook and are practicing it to the minute degree. To them, it is their ticket to battle, booty, women, and slaves. Instead of working to solve the next cure for cancer, they have themselves become a cancer—just as “God’s Prophet” was to the Arabian Peninsula. And being a cancer, men of this earth must do everything in their power to eliminate it.

I believe every word of the Bible and anyone who studies the words of God (and the Bible IS the word of God), knows the proper place to use force, that is only to the extent necessary to restore peace and the rule of law within godly principles. The more a person understand what it means to “put on Christ”, the more at peace he is with his carnal human nature, his circumstances and the more he wants to live at peace, if at all possible with his neighbor.
Moreover, when such a person studies God’s Law, that is founded on the Ten Commands, he understands that two of the commands (the one that forbids theft and the one that forbids coveting) the less he understands that socialism is evil, and is organized and institutional coveting and theft, wrapped up on the lie that society will be more equal under that system.
I would rather have a neighbor who studies the Word of God every day than one who studies Marx every day.
OK, show me how the teachings of Christ, or the teachings of Paul, or the teachings of John, or Peter, or James and so on, can lead to terrorism if taken as fundamental truth. It can’t be done.
Israel was a theocracy, and much of the old testament was concerned with the Hebrews forming a theocratic kingdom within the boundaries of Israel. That is very unlike the Koran that is concerned with enforcing an Islamic theocracy throughout the world.
Christianity is the truth. That is all that matters. If it leads to violence, so be it.
