Tonight, she joined Wolf Blitzer on CNN’s The Situation Room and attempted to clarify her point.
“I’m not the first person to say something like this,” Harf said. “Military commanders that we’ve had throughout many years here fighting this war on terrorism have said the exact same thing, that in the short term when there’s a threat like ISIL. We’ll take direct military action against these terrorists. We have done that. We are doing that in Iraq and Syria. But longer term, we have to look at how we combat the conditions that can lead people to turn to extremism.”
“So you suggested that maybe if you find these young men jobs, they might not become terrorists?” Blitzer asked, echoing her critics, prompting Harf to call his statement a “gross oversimplification.”
“We cannot kill every terrorist around the world, nor should we try,” Harf said later. “How do you get at the root causes of this? It might be too nuanced an argument for some, like I’ve seen over the last 24 hours some of the commentary out there, but it’s really the smart way that Democrats, Republicans, our partners in the Arab world think we need to combat it.”
Asked how she’s dealing with the criticism she has been receiving for her comments, Harf said, “I don’t read it.”

Perfect example of what Carly Fiorina was saying about liberals thinking they are smarter then everyone else. They talk amongst themselves and jump to these absurd conclusions and then when others laugh at them it is our fault for not being smart enough to understand their superior intellect.
She needs to understand the saying, “When you find yourself in a hole STOP DIGGING.” Do they come any dumber then a democrat?
Face it. Ms. Harf has spent her whole life with people who are "officially" smarter than most people. What "officially smart people" cannot understand, however, is that whatever they think does not have to be true, just because that is what they feel or even think. This misunderstanding unites them and why they prefer to communicate amongst themselves. The "narratives" they develop comfort them and exclude those whom they perceive as less smart.
There is also the question of overly-specialized learning at the expense of . A friend of mine is reputed to be a brilliant physicist. He is a tenured full professor at an Ivy League university. He has no idea how his hot water heater works, and even less understanding of his automobile. He has a very difficult time talking with people he conceives as less smart than he thinks he is.
He is really smart. He has internalized all the "narratives." He is a fervent supporter of Barack Obama and cannot speak with anyone who disagrees.

Your friend, the ‘tenured full professor at an Ivy League university’ must be really lonely. I am convinced he believes there is NO ONE who is as smart as he. Leftists are like that. Oh, and only Conservatives are evil. They are convinced of that, too. And ‘He has no idea how his hot water heater works, and even less understanding of his automobile’. The death of common sense/real world experience has taken it’s toll on Leftists.
I agree with what you’re saying but would replace “smart” with “intelligent” or probably more appropriately, “educated”.
Just because one is educated, doesn’t mean one is actually smart.
A quick example; An F16 pilot (highly educated) is doing his walk around with a brand new 5 level A1C crew chief...is treating the crew chief quite poorly and essentially ignoring him. Crew chief is responsible for condition of the aircraft that pilot is about to strap on...
The pilot may be educated in the ways of flying aircraft, but not very smart in respecting the young man responsible for maintaining said aircraft.
That is a true story and the last statement is what I actually told the pilot in defense of the A1C...

Name one military commander prissy, who has advocated the same solution to the terrorism problem that you did. Just one will be sufficient! Heck - name one leader of one country who thinks the problem can be solved by offering them jobs? What are they qualified to do? What are they trained for? What do their resumes’ look like? What is their education background? Can they read? Can they write?
How about becoming a spokesperson for WORLD WIDE TERRORISM? Will that satisfy you because that’s the way it’s headed and you can keep your bleached blonde head in the sand but nothing is going to change until they are all dead.

I’ve wondered the same thing - not necessarily hers but who at the State Department would get the message that they need to put these 1/2 baked females back wherever they dug them up.... They are not nearly as impressive as they believe themselves to be... What’s the old saying - Buy them for what they’re worth and sell them for what they THINK they’re worth!
