When I told my friends in New Jersey nearly ten years ago that I was packing my bags and heading south, they thought Id lost my mind. ...(snip)......When I told them I had no desire to inherit the pension liabilities that New Jerseys public unions and politicians were irresponsibly saddling on their own citizens, things got downright gloomy......(snip)
Last month, in a move that shocked residents of northern New Jersey, Daimlers Mercedes-Benz USA announced it was moving its headquarters from Montvale (just miles from where I grew up) to Sandy Springs, Ga. Does it move the needle to the left? Perhaps, but the “needle” is not some kind of uncontrollable thing from Mars. We can impact the needle. The entire truth of why they are moving to Georgia can/should/might wake some people up and move the needle the other way.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not critizing the move. I think it will be great for the Georgia economy and bad for Jersey, and I definitely hope that the population in both states will learn a lesson. But when I look at Austin and how liberal it’s become with all the exports from silicon valley, my hope starts to falter. Let’s hope you’re right.
Well understand that all college towns are liberal - that’s a major problem with Austin. And yes, the northern migration has turned red states purple or blue.
But again, this migration is just now starting to flesh out - the “whys” are starting to become more common knowledge. And it’s not just the weather. My hope is in this realization. Guarantee? No, but having a Presidential candidate who will carry this message would go a long long way towards educating people.
The growing states are the red states, and the shrinking states are the blue states. It is a huge opportunity for messaging.
