Yanukovych ran on a Pro-EU platform. The Ukrainians have had elections, by the way. The only parties openly supporting Russia are the Communists, and guess how popular they are these days?
That’s an outright lie. Yanukovych first ran for president in 2004, advancing to the runoff election and initially defeating his opponent; but amid widespread citizen protests and occupation of Kiev’s Independence Square (in what became known as the Orange Revolution), the Ukrainian Supreme Court nullified the runoff election, which was fraught with allegations of fraud and voter intimidation, and ordered a second runoff. Yanukovych lost the second runoff election to Viktor Yushchenko.
Yushchenko was the pro EU candidate, as was Timoshenko. The pattern has been that when western Ukraine loses an election they take it to the streets. This time they seized Kiev.
Just for giggles, what is your interest in this? Do you live there? Some personal connection to the movement? You are very passionate for one side, and relatively new to FR. Just curious where your coming from.
Just once, for pure entertainment, id like to hear why without agitprop, slogans, or trite stuff.
A real honest telling of why.
Right now the name calling and the poster slogans from the 1940s aren’t really winning anyone new. Maybe it would even help your cause to just lay it out.
Seriously,,
” The only parties openly supporting Russia are the Communists, and guess how popular they are these days? “
The communist party is even a joke in Russia. Everyone under 35 thinks its a bunch of old geezers missing the old days. You’d have about the same chance of establishing segregation in the south as for the Russian communist party to win an election in Moscow.
As to the election in Ukraine, please, the one after the civil war began is just bogus within the war zones.
Its hard to imagine a less honest result.
