I just started 10 mg Lipitor (on two weeks), just to see if it works. No side effects. I do not feel that it is that necessary, but will try it once. I am quite sedentary in my job, but it says that Lipitor will only work as directed along with exercise and diet. Fat chance for that right now. If I did that, I wouldn’t take the drug.
Lipitor also destroyed some of my muscle structure. Doctor switched me over to Lovastatin .. and that really didn’t help at all. Both meds have the same “rare” warning.
I’d rather take the risk than choke to death when my tongue swells up.
I tried changing my diet, but found it had no affect on lowering my cholesterol. Ten mgs of lipitor did the trick for me and I think that is the lowest dose that is prescribed. I pretty much eat like a pig, but do try to stay away from carbs except for the ones I get from beer.
I lowered my basic cholesterol by 44 points very simply in 90 days, with no changes in diet:
each morning:
2 tablespoons cold pressed flax oil (about $6 a bottle of 16 servings) at Wal Mart
2 garlic oil capsules
1 capsule of red yeast rice
There is one caveat here. Red yeast rice is a naturally occurring statin. So if you have a problem with statins or have concerns with using statins, you should be aware of this. It is still a statin, just because it is natural doesn’t change that. I personally don’t think taking statins continuously is a good idea, so I eliminated that. I got back some of those points, but I think it was a good idea.
Interestingly, lowering your carb intake and adding a little exercise to the daily regimen will lower your cholesterol just about as much, as the wife and I discovered.
