The crusades were in response to the muslims invading the Christian world.
Christians have reformed the faith since then. The muslim faith has not changed anything since its inception.

Muslim persecution of Christians was indeed a primary impetus for the Crusades. Slight note of correction here. The theme of justification and of bearing on the persecutors notwithstanding, the main thing the Seljuk Turks did that aroused the Church and motivated the papal appeal for fighting men was to cut off Christian pilgrims' access to Jerusalem and the holy places of Christianity, like Galilee.
