The Pacific Maritime Association suspends weekend vessel operations at all 29 ports along the West Coast.
For the second time this week, terminal operators controlling the West Coast ports have raised the stakes in contract negotiations with their dockworkers.
On Friday, the Pacific Maritime Assocation (PMA) said it would suspend weekend vessel operations at all 29 ports along the West Coast.
After three months of union slowdowns, it makes no sense to pay extra for less work, PMA spokesman Wade Gates said in a statement. Especially if there is no end in sight to the unions actions, which needlessly brought West Coast ports to the brink of gridlock.

As of Friday, the Port of Seattle had five vessels at berth and two at anchor. The Port of Tacoma had seven docked and another seven at anchor.

Can’t the get a bunch of Mexicans to fill in?
Illegals are instantly skilled at all work, even though they never did anything like it back in Mexico, so they would instantly be able to step in.
The Longshoremen’s union aren’t afraid to push the envelope of chaos, because they know Obama and his ilk in Fed.gov have their back.
They have been on a slow down for many months. Normally, the Feds would have stepped in long ago. They haven't and let this fester on and on at the expense of the carriers and shippers.
And from what I've been reading, one the the longshoremen's issues is ObamaCare penalties for having what is now "Cadillac" health care plans. They want the PMA to absorb those penalties.
Seems like a dumb time to be striking, what with all the empty ships that aren’t sailing.
Baltic Dry Index is at a 29 year low right now.
I hope my Walmart doesn’t run out of cheap plastic Chinese crap.
Going to be pretty hard to find some seafood now.
PMA has agreed to do so. Also have agreed to raise wages +/- 3%, increase retirement benefits, and the aforementioned cadillac tax on the health plan.
Their health plan is astonishing....no co-pays, no deductibles on doctor visits, hospitalization, or prescriptions.
Look at the Port of Long Beach, California.
That is the major West Cost Shipping Terminal for the Longshoreman Union.
if so, doubt if they would work the docks on Cesar Chavez' birthday either..
This is all orchestrated to give Walker of WI a chance to look presidential!
The response from the WH will be compared to Walkers actions in WI.
Be consoled, if they do run out, you can go to almost any other store in the U.S. and buy it.
Not that I'd doubt that Mexicans would love the work, they'd likely be trampled by everyone else applying for the jobs if there was a lockout and a hire of new people. Oh, and Cesar Chavez' birthday is a liberal holiday that most Mexicans have no idea about. Sort of like Cinco De Mayo, something they learn about when they come to the US.
The most overpaid people in America.
