TurboTax stopped processing state tax returns after noticing an increase in suspicious filings, the tax preparation software company said Friday.
The company learned that scam artists were using stolen personal information to file fraudulent state returns with TurboTax software, giving them the ability to steal state tax refunds. It stopped processing returns filed to all states as of Thursday.

DU Fraudster Will Pitt Publicly Corrected by TurboTax for Posting False Hacking Scoop

no bells going off when a 100 returns are completed with the same info
The fraudsters can simply use H&R Block or other software now. It would take them a few minutes only to switch.
I hope that whoever is noticing these “suspicious filings” are giving the appropriate government agencies the IP addresses and other related data. Not that the government agencies would actually act TIMELY to stop the fraud and arrest the perps before they’re gone—they never seem to do that and BILLIONS of dollars are defrauded from the federal and state governments EVERY year. Of course, the folks whose identities were used in the fraud suffer also.
“TaxAct.com lets you do your taxes, and print it out for free. Here in WI you can e-file for free through their website.”

Yep ... there are lots of different routes for the fraudsters to conduct their fraud. The end result is the same.
I work it so I owe the state and the feds each year.
“I work it so I owe the state and the feds each year.”
Better to work it so you don’t owe the feds each year. But that is hard to do if you have a W-2 or 1099’s.
They need a high profile investigator to get to the bottom of this. Is Tim Geithner available?
Bush had 8 years to fix this...nothing.
Obama is probably using it to fund OFA.
Please...Ted Cruz to the rescue
Why is TT punishing the rest of us by stopping ALL state filing because of some fraudsters they’ve noticed? It’s the job of the IRS to deal with fraudsters, not TT (unless TT itself is somehow responsible for the fraud).
BTW, I’M SO glad I took H&R Block up on their offer for free H&R Deluxe for POed customers of the gutted TT Deluxe this year! H&R Block Deluxe installs faster (without ANY permanent updater/anti-piracy background services clogging up my PC forever like TT does), runs faster, has a cleaner, less cluttered interface, less BS up-selling popups, and in general is less annoying than TT. PLUS it comes with FIVE free Federal e-files compared to the gutted TT Deluxe which has only one free Fed e-file. I’m going to take my unopened TT Deluxe back to Costco and get my fifty bucks back and NEVER going back to TT!
The fraudster isn't getting your return. He is falsifying info with your SSN, with bloated dependents, bloated exemptions and fake deductions to get a bloated refund. In reality, you can owe $1,000, but if they file before you they can get a big refund.
Mine were already done and accepted before I heard about this, so hopefully I am ok.

Dude, you are really NOT knowledgeable about TurboTax Deluxe. It comes with FIVE free Federal e-files. So you are either confused or you didn’t really have TurboTax Deluxe. I have my suspicion of which of the two it is.
