President Barack Obama stirred outraged with his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday, comparing the atrocities committed by ISIS to those of Christians "in the name of Christ."
"Unless we get on our high horse and think that this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ," Obama said. "In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ."
"So it is not unique to one group or one religion," Obama said. "There is a tendency in us, a simple tendency that can pervert and distort our faith."Appearing on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV, conservative commentator Pat Buchanan fumed at Obama comparing the extreme barbarity of ISIS to the Crusades. That version is similar to all the other translations that are out there. They have the torments as something that “will be” rather than as something commanded for Muslims to carry out against infidels. I don’t want to make excuses for these barbarians but evidence points to the version you initially posted being inconsistent with the actual meaning of the verse.
That may be the case. I didn’t check the the source or the context. I have no problem admitting when I am wrong, and it appears in this case I was wrong.
Roger that. And it’s not that you were wrong. It’s whoever edited the verses you quoted was wrong, or to be more precise, dishonest. Gotta be careful about these things as we make our case against the bad guys.
