The nations new postmaster general says the Postal Service is looking beyond its regular mail and package delivery for new sources of revenue.
That means building on what Megan J. Brennan calls its core competencythe delivery of goods.
So what is the agency doing?
Were testing grocery delivery in San Francisco, Brennan said in an interview with The Associated Press. Were also delivering water, cases of water in Manhattan and the boroughs of New York City.

It’s the postal union that is killing the postal service.
>> its core competencythe delivery of goods.
Silly me. I thought their one and only core competency was collective bargaining.
They are going to go into competition with banks.
It’s sort of a Liberal wet dream, and will get them a new line of potential revenues.
Just set up 3D printers at each USPO and tele comute the goods directly...
Better yet ..buy out all the Radio Shack locations and put UPS and FedEx out of business.
Rent trucks for recycling runs....like Newman and Kramer made.
And the BoD (whatever they’re called) which won’t let rates rise to what they must to cover costs.
More new revenue....take the sales of unwanted USPO offices out of Mr Feinsteins hands and sell them on e-bay....pocket the commissions.
only a decade and a half late...
“Net Neutrality” leads to a “usage fee” on all email.
New revenue streams sounds better than what usually happens; the Postmaster General appearing on the news in a state of panic; If we cannot raise the cost of stamps another 2 cents, its the end of the world as we know it!!! Five months later, replay same film for the next increase of 4 cents.
They could buy RadioShack and concentrate on electronics.
They could purchase Staples and get more fully integrated into office supply and service. And its now a monopoly which would fit right in with the Post Office.
double the price of junk mail
Granted delivery is a hard job I don’t envy these guys for what they have to do in the winter.
But around here they’ve now got cars, whereas 5 to 10 years ago and before that they did their job without them. So why do they need cars now?
Initiate a “union tax” against FedEx, which has no union. Sort of like an import tariff against foreign supplier who dump their products against American firms.
Time to allow the Postal Service actually compete in the package delivery business, and revisit the size of discounts given for presorted mail.
USPS phased out all of their cheaper international shipping to just one option. Running a small business that did do some international business, we’ve gone to selling next to nothing internationally because high costs of international shipping.
USPS needs to go back to offering surface mail/non-flight—on a boat options for international shipping again so we can export goods cheaply again.
