Cruz may indeed provide the fire needed to enthuse conservatives and moderate (something lacking in McCain and Romney) or he may turn off people outside his highly-conservative niche.

Standing up for the Constitution is now “highly Conservative”? Hey, I consider myself "highly conservative". If I was in charge, I would
- Seal the borders by putting up barbed wire, mine fields, and give rifle-armed border patrol orders to shoot anybody trying to cross in from Mexico.
- End all federal spending on education, along with all federal regulations, and give it back to the states
- End all needs-based federal welfare programs, and hand it all back to the states and private charity. If some welfare mom with 12 kids by 12 deadbeat daddies whines, then tough -- work or die
