A plane belonging to Taiwanese carrier TransAsia Airways has crash-landed in a river in Taipei. More than 50 people were onboard at the time, and a number of people were reportedly injured. Some reports said there were several people trapped inside the plane in need of rescue. Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) showed a picture of a plane almost submerged in the Keelung river. The ATR-72 had just taken off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was headed to Kinmen Airport on the outskirts of Taiwan, just off the coast of south-east China, CNA said. The cause of the latest incident was not immediately clear. But CNA quoted a government spokesman as saying the plane crashed after hitting an elevated bridge. Local channel ETTV showed footage of the plane banking and hitting a road bridge before crashing into the river. Local media reported that several people had been rescued so far and sent to a nearby hospital. In July last year 48 people died when a TransAsia Airways plane crashed amid stormy weather in Taiwan's Penghu archipelago.

I remember that.
He certainly is a lucky man.
Thank you. I will go back to see that. The engineer part of me is interested in the technique.
Interesting read of it’s history. I read on the twit feed last night that the day before, another of the same model, overshot a runway in India. (not that this would have anything to do with engine failure, but the India overshot just plain pilot error?)
Things touch our lives and change them, for better or worse. That is very kind of you to remember your friend your entire life, live for him, and take flowers. You honor him well by your living.
Now the cockpit is ashore. Before it was at the riverbank where they recovered the bodies of the crew.
I ditto that. What was above river didn’t look like much, not enough for a majority of people to survive.
I had a thought of that. 31 mainland Chinese were on the plane. I would hope not.
wow, I still haven’t look at any new footage since after midnight. Thanks for the analysis.
Wow, thank you for seeing all that. I know next to nothing about planes. I am interested of late in accident reconstruction.
You reminded me of when I was a kid. Dad used to take us out on the edge of the airport (before the addition of two more terminals) and he’d park at the side of the road. We’d lay o top of the station wagon and look up while the VERY CLOSE planes flew overhead. I’m thinking a couple hundred feet vertically at most. The end of the runway/fence wasn’t too far from the road. I still love to watch them take off and land.
Hit the taxi, but taxi guy was able to drive to a stop. I don’t think that it hit any other car.
That is interesting. Since the plane was less than a year old and only 9 months or less in service, what would the problem be? A maintenance one? Are these planes going to service airlines that can’t maintain them properly?
Thanks for deciphering that. All I could hear was the “mayday” part.
That reminded me of working when I was in high school/college. One establishment that typically employed only the entry level kids (movie theater) kept a running list of the funniest and bizarre excuses for missing work or being late. Some of them were pretty funny.
What a wonderful memory to share!
My Daddy used to take us to Logan Airport in Boston (in the days before the TSA) and we would go right up to the gates and watch the planes take off and land!
Your memory brought back a sweet one of my own! :-)
Sure wasn’t any lift at the end. Flightradar24 said that this plane was in the air for three (3) minutes and a quick glance at the graph last night showed it got up to 1000 feet. What happened in the last minute or so? The dash cam of course only shows 10 secs or less (the far away dash).
That is interesting. I suppose we will find out.
Looks frightening. I guess not much time to try a darn thing with the plane. If he’d hit on the bridge, explosion and no survivors. It was just “luck” (i wouldn’t know what other word to use) that the river happened to be where physics took over?
None of the crew survived?
