DENVER Republican Rep. Don Coram of Montrose is at odds with members of his own party after co-sponsoring a measure that would fund long-acting contraceptives for low-income women. Coram Enlarge photo
The measure, House Bill 1194, was introduced on Friday, despite cries that the legislation funds devices that induce abortion.
The issue has become a battle of science, with doctors arguing that there is little evidence to indicate that intrauterine devices, IUDs, cause abortion.
Corams bipartisan legislation, which he is carrying with Rep. KC Becker, D-Boulder, would provide $5 million from the state general fund to continue a program that health officials say lowered the teen birth rate in Colorado by 40 percent.
The program was funded by an anonymous grant. But for the Colorado Family Planning Initiative to continue, state support is needed.
If we can do this, make lives better for these young people, save the state of Colorado millions of dollars and prevent abortions, tell me whats wrong with that? Coram asked.

So now we’re putting bombs on the edge of the roads in Colorado?
Everybody in Colorado loves these little Mexican babies because when they are born they already know how to say “Quiero mucho dinero”
***Everybody in Colorado loves these little Mexican babies***
I used to joke with my mom about being switched at birth. She said it was impossible as, in the hospital infant show room I stood out like a little white face calf in a herd of brown faces.
Preventing life is not the same as extinguishing life.
we used to live in a country where people’s personal problems, were their personal problems.
now evryone else’s problems demand the state take more money out of your pocket for everyone else’s almost entirely self-induced problems. nobody owns any bad decisions they make. except if you’re in a demograpic the government doesn’t prefer/favor. then you’re on your own for your troubles, but you better still keep paying for others’ problems.
Yo también.
“...with doctors arguing that there is little evidence to indicate that intrauterine devices, IUDs, cause abortion.”

IUD’s work by irritating the uterine lining and creating what amounts to a low level infection that goes on for as long as the device remains... This is a completely disingenuous argument ... the “doctors” on the “pro” side are making a distinction between the creation of human life , conception , and the support of that life during maturation , they refer to pregnancy as the act of the mothers body providing support ... their “not an abortion” argument is pure semantics.
Try telling animal control “I didn’t kill that puppy dog ,, I merely chained him in a locked room with no food or water for a month.”
IUD’s do not prevent conception , they prevent successful implantation... every so often a child implants in an area of the uterus that is not inflamed by the IUD and the pregnancy continues.
